I was close to voting for Lone Wolf (Kai), but I went Magnakai in the end. The last three of that series could probably stand alone and compete closely, but all seven together push the series ahead of the rest.

The Kai series was good, but it wasn't as involved and didn't feel as heroic, to me, as the Magnakai (except for Shadow on the Sand, which will always be my favorite, I think).
Grey Star had a great feel to it, and would likely come in second for me.
The Kai series is third, as it was a great introduction and good story.
The Master Series comes next for me, as I always had a little trouble convincing myself of the third tier of Disciplines, along with believing that, after the defeat of the Darklords there would be anything else as terrifying to challenge Lone Wolf, especially after he can turn invisible, command animals to do his bidding, fight better than most mortals, kill someone by thought alone, etc.
I rank the New Order series last for the sole reason that I have never been able to even see the books outside of internet pictures.
Anyone else out there like the Combat Heroes books as well as I did? I notice they're never mentioned anywhere.

Well, Black Baron was the only one I could ever find, though it made for a nice diversion.

I'm going to vote for the Magnakai series because of all the psychological development of Lone Wolf: he wants to get his revenge over the Darklords, he follows the path of one of his ancestor, he vows to bring back the Kai Order to its past glory, he discovers that people of his past history all played an important role in what he is becoming now and he gets to meet his own creator...He is like a tragic hero that can't avoid his own destiny to get the Lorestones and save his country of the attacks of the Darklords. He has a lot to do and to learn so he can accomplish his duty. The Kai, Grand Master and Second Order series are pretty similar. The psychological development is less present. So, I'll put the Second Order and the Grand Master series in second place since they are pretty much similar: somebody asks you to go somewhere to do something because that somebody can't do it by himself. The only difference between them is that the main character of the Second Order doesn't have a name and it's easier to me to identify myself to him. In third place, I'll put the Kai series since the style in the writting is not as good as the subsequent series, but you sense that it's getting better and better after each book. I can't say anything about the Grey Star series since I only played the 2 first books (thanks to Project Aon! , but with what I had read so far, it seems pretty good with what seems to be a love affair between Grey Star and Tanith (maybe it's not going to develop like that, but I have still to read book 3 now that it is online, so I might find it out then). It adds something new that we didn't see in the Lone Wolf series and it's pretty interesting.

Well, I have to say that it was hands-down the Magnakai series for me too; without quoting everything Black Cat just said, I agree with his reasons why it was such a great series. Later it seemed less like the series was continuing to build on itself to reach a climactic conclusion, and earlier the books were less focused; you could read some of them independently without feeling like you were starting right in the middle of things. Another thing I loved about the Magnakai books was that this was where Joe really introduced improvements based on rank, and that was one of the sections that I always looked forward to reading the most when I got to a new book. Such a great idea to add to the gamebooks!

This poll ought to include Freeway Warrior as well. I'm not saying anyone should vote for it, but it would be nice to have the option. I'll vote Magnakai though.
