(Sorry I'm so fuzzy with names.) The only way to get through that cave is if you have Animal Kinmanship or some kind of special spear, but how do you get that spear? Most useful item that hasn't been mentioned here - silver flask and Oede (not technically special items, but hey). Silver flask: In the book where you're trapped in the Daziarn, make sure you visit all the tombs in the place the chaos master strikes. Oede: Two places. The first is in book 5. You must get limbdeath, which is obtained in the sewer. You must head toward the aqueduct and fall over a corpse or something. I think animal kinship (or maybe mindblast) is fairly helpful here, as it lets you keep your purse in a fight with a sewer monster and buy several useful potions later. From there you just continue with the book and you eventually find the Oede. The second Oede: Plague lords of Ruel. You need either the map of the place obtained in the library, or the golden key found in the statue of the daemonette in Cadak's office. It is Cadak, right? Then you wander through, and find it during your escape from the castle, after killing off the virus. I know, my directions are vague. I haven't played the books in a couple of months. Oh, I nearly forgot an almost useless item (by the time you find it). The jadin amulet that lets you evade normal missiles. Wow, wish you could find that in one of the early kai books. The helmet because it's an excellent early find, the amulet because I just like it and the sphere because it has so many cool uses. So, what's the deal with the Platinum Amulet? It protects you from extreme heat and cold, as I understand it, but is it ever called for after Book 7? There's certainly no end of situations where it would be useful if you don't have Nexus. Although you can find one in book 7, they automatically give you one in book 16 (and 17, and 18, and 19, and 20 if you erase it after each adventures).
