You mentioned Kill Bill, gothmog, as being part of that slick genre. I disagree. Kill Bill was a play ont hat slickness. Half the movie is a spoof of action movies. The Kill Bill movies were well thought out and pretty good, though I thought the second one was lacking. That's kind of what I mean though, Kill Bill is just loaded with references to older action movies, kungfu movies, eastern swordplays, anime, etc. It felt like every other scene was a wink from Tarantino showing off his monumentous knowledge of cinema. That said I only saw the first one once, so perhaps my memory has distorted it a little. I mean, I'm *pretty* sure Clement Atley didn't turn up to deliver a message of global peace halfway through.

I saw bits and pieces of Kill Bill.... not sure what volume.... the anime was alright, but the live stuff kinda sucked in my opinion...

I think you guys missed the point of Kill Bill, which was to show an artisitic mastery of style. I don't think it was either showing off, nor did it suck. Tarantino's wasn't so much winking at the audience as he was paying homage to the films that had influenced his career. And I don't see how it could have been said that it sucked, unless you are refering to the fact that the moves were somewhat spoofy (which was on purpose).
I thought Kill Bill was hilarious.

Yep, that's exactly my point of view: both movies are about the style. Just imagine the same story told by, say, Sam Raimi. You'll get something totally different, more linear, more... hollywoodian. While Vol. I is more a tribute to old Asian kung-fu movies, Vol. II is more a tribute to Sergio Leone's westerns. And yes, I found it hilarious sometimes (O-Ren-Ishii cutting the head of Boss Tanaka and the fountain of blood coming out of the body: priceless ;D)

Sam Raimi = godly. I have Army of Darkness, Evil Dead 1, and the Collector's Ed. of Spider-Man. Would have Spidy 2 if ever I could remember to pick it up whenever I'm at Wal-Mart....

You want a mind screw? Donnie Darko is a mind screw. If any of you have never seen that movie, see it like five hundred times. With each viewing, both it and you become cooler.
I swear.
