Why..?
Into the GM series....? Why?

It's exceedingly handy for the overwhelming percentage of people who played Shadow on the Sand and then went straight to The Captives of Kaag and needed to deal with the Helghast.

Or you could trade it for the Grey Crystal Ring in book 8. OMG!

@ Peregrine: *lol* But are you given the choice of using it against that Helghast? @ OmegaFlareX: But then it wouldn't be the Jewelled Mace you're taking into the Grand Master Series, would it? Admittedly, I haven't played many Grand Master books so far, but I haven't seen any place where you get an opportunity to use the Jewelled Mace ... I'm as perplexed as you, Storm Dancer. As Peregrine mentioned above, and I think I brought up in another thread, there is a place in book 14 when *SPOILER* you are prompted for the Sommerswerd, but if you don't have it they ask if you have the Dagger of Vashna, a Jewelled Mace, or Helshezag. If you have any or all of these three, you go to one entry that covers the result.

Ah, I never thought about it before, but in view of what Relenoir just posted . . . ***MAJOR SPOILER FOR LONE WOLF #16--READ AT OWN RISK*** and since both Helshezag and the Dagger of Vashna are destroyed during the course of The Legacy of Vashna, it does make a kind of sense to allow the Jewelled Mace into the Grand Master series.

Good point Outspaced! I haven't figured out any place it can be used thereafter (certainly not necessary in book 20) but I'll keep my eyes open in 17-19.

I vaguely remember there being a combat against another big lizard thing where the text gives you the option to add +5 to CS if you're using one.
But even so, what self-respecting Kai GM is going to have got to that point with nothing better than a jewelled mace (and who bothers getting weaponmastery in mace-use to make it worthwhile)?

Ah, I never thought about it before, but in view of what Relenoir just posted . . . <snip> it does make a kind of sense to allow the Jewelled Mace into the Grand Master series. Except the example in question is in Book 14. Anywhere else that it's useful in the GM series?

Come on, y'all, it's such a pimpin' weapon, what with the korlinium engraving and gem encrustation. Bash some heads in style! But, anyway, you gain a weapon skill with every book you complete, so your first ones will probably be sword, bow, and dagger, and so after the 3rd book in the Magnakai and GM series, you should be able to take Mace if you really wanted to.

So the footnote additions say, but I never understood this - I didn't even see anything in improved magnakai skills about leaning new weapons.

That's because you are looking in the wrong place - it is said under Magnakai Disciplines, in the basic description of Weaponmastery: [/I][/ul] The Wytch-King

I traded my mace for pepper spray. It tastes better on a taco.

I think you ought to be able to sell it for thousands of crowns like it says in the text when you find it. And then have a belt pouch that could hold them all and you could buy like property and horses and such along your journey. Nah, not really.

I invoke... Threadnomancy! I tend to go through the sewers in Book 5 without getting the Limbdeath just so I can get caught, escape and take all six of the Jewelled Maces in the one chest. Then I assume that LW sells them all to totally pimp out the Kaio Monastery with magic hot tubs, silk sheets and the like for all the juicy boy hottie-, er, earnest Kai initiates. Seriously, though, check this out: www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml/lw/19wb/ill13.htmDon't those guys all look just a little bit too happy to see their Grand Master...
