Thought I would just share some of the rules I have been creating in order to start an online RPG. It is designed a s 'quick and dirty' game, based on the books themselves. I have no idea if it is even close to Mongoose's new system, but hopefully it will prove fun to play. You can find a PDF of the basic rules here: members.wideband.net.au/crymson/Rules.pdfI'd be interested to hear your thoughts. I'll be posting character classes shortly. I am hoping to get the game started in a week or so; anyone interested please let me know.

Just to be on the careful side - are there any copyright issues with this not being hosted on AON? Also, with it being an RPG, Mongoose may hold copyright over those areas Well worth checking out to be on the safe side... Looks intriguing though

Hmm. Never thought about copyright issues. Basically I'm just looking for people to critique the rules and to join me in playing an online game:)
As for the RPG... I have been waiting for Mongoose's new RPG for a while and am still waiting, so I thought I would do this in the mean time.
What it comes down to is I want to play!

Well, obviously you are free to create any rules you like for your own games, and share them with those you are playing with, but you have now published the rules on a public forum, which opens them up to public consumption - that is where the line is crossed...
I have no idea where the line lies on copyright issues, but I always err on the side of caution.

Yeah, I have no idea either. If you and the other moderators think I should remove the link, I will do so gladly.

I would suggest getting an AON account created and hosting it there - I know we are covered for fan-based book extensions, computerised book readers, etc - but I do not know if we are covered for a full-blown RPG - one of the more long-standing members should be able to help there.

When you say you are waiting for the new RPG, have you tried the old one? I've not played it, but do have the books and it looks quite good (if you can forgive all the errors!)

Well, as long as you're not using swathes of text from the Project Aon (or Mongoose) editions, there's no real reason why you can't make your own personal set of rules available on your site. However, since the (c) and TM belong to Joe Dever, it would be a good idea to add a note stating that you are aware of this, as we do in our editions of the books. (See the very bottom of this page, above the adverts if you haven't blocked them, for an example of what to write.) Joe's own words on the matter. And a link to the PA site might not go amiss either (hint, hint)!

Yep, played it and loved it. However, this time I am looking for something much simpler than the d20 version (you could say I am burnt out on that). That is one reason I have been looking forward to the new Mongoose one outspaced: Good points. I'll get that corrected and posted in the PDF. Now, any feedback on the actual game? And anyone wanting to play?

Yeah I know what you mean - people keep bring out RPGs with more & more dice, but I prefer the RPG side of things - role play, not roll play! Any ideas what the new Mongoose rules are based on?

Supposedly it is similar to the books, in that you will be able to take stuff straight from the books and use them in your games. The system I have been tinkering with tries to do the same thing. No idea how close it will be to the Mongoose system, but I'm sick of waiting! (I've had a campaign idea running around in my head since hearing about the new game, but with no firm release date still for it, I have bitten the bullet and doing it myself!)

There's not really enough information there to determine how the rules feel. When you say "as per normal rules" - do you mean using the random combat tables? It looks like you've brought in some ideas from Freeway Warrior, which is probably not a bad thing I'm not keen on the ranged rules - I can't see any element of skill involved - although you do mention special skills may impact it, so it depends how that pans out (you'd have to be careful - a total +4 modifier would mean you would never miss...) The modifiers don't quite feel right - a dagger inflicting -2 damage means it would inflict zero damage 1/3 of the time at full damage, and half the time at half damage. I'd certainly be interested in playing a LW RPG, but not sure how that would work given the distance...

It's going to be an online thing, probably played over at Tower of the Sun or at RPoL.
The rules are going through an edit as we speak; the "as per normal rules" does mean the normal combat rules in the books, using the Combat Results Charts.
Some feedback I have recieved has pointed out the ranged rules are slightly off, as with the damage modifiers (which have been removed). The ranged rules are now going to use the Combat Results Table as well.

Sounds great How do you deal with die rolling?

RPoL has a dice rolling function built into it (a definate advantage); if I hold it at Tower of the Sun I'll have to think of another way around it.
