Hi good folks of the forum! In some of the books, Lone Wolf is told specifically that he is able to store items with (whoever he is with at the time, or in his monastery). In other books, he isn't told as much, but it makes sense to be able to do so (Like in Book 2, where he leaves the King to get the Sommerswerd, and then returns at the end of the book). And yet in others, it makes no sense for Lone Wolf to be able to store items or access previously stored items, such as when he is starting out at the burned monastery in book 1, or falling through the inter-dimensional portal at the beginning of book 12 (or is it 11?) Anyway, the help request is this: would someone please look through the opening sections of each book, and categorize them as described above? Basically three categories - 1) Explicitly allowed to store items/access storage (In the text) 2) Implicitly allowed to store items/access storage (not in text) 3) Definitely not allowed to store items/access storage Also, does anyone know if are there any instances where LW is allowed to access stored items when he is in the middle of a book? (Like he returns to the monastery and is able to pick up equipment mid-adventure?) If so, I'll need to adjust how I'm handling his access to stored items - not a big change, but I'd just as soon take care of it now, if it needs addressing. And if it doesn't, then I won't mess with it! So, anyone want to help me out? I'll get things started: Book 1- Definitely not Book 2- Implicit Book 3- Implicit ... Book 6- Explicit

Definitely not allowed: 11, 12, 18, 19 (22, 23, 28) Possibly not allowed: 10--you are in Tahou end of 9/beginning of 10; maybe the Elder Magi bought your stuff along with them?

Why isn't it allowed before book 12? Don't you emerge in Sommerlund toward the beginning of the book?

Toward the beginning you arrive in Sommerlund, yes, but not at the beginning of the book. Also, you don't get to visit the Monastery because you fall through the Shadow Gate to Toran, then you are immediately packed off on a ship bound for the Darklands. You might argue that Banedon would have sent for all your kit in storage so you could access it in Section 166, but I personally can't see it.

About storing and retrieving items IMHO:
Book 1 at the end: allowed implicit(LW can store items in the Chamber of State for example)
Book 2 - beginning: allowed explicit Book 2 - at the end: allowed implicit(LW brings his stuff to the rebuilded Kai Monastery)
Book 3 - allowed explicit
Book 4 - allowed explicit
Book 5 - allowed explicit
Book 6 - beginning: allowed explicit Book 6 - ending: unsure (maybe implicit)
Book 7 - beginning: unsure implicit
Book 7 Story So Far :
... ... There, hidden deep in the crypt of the city's cathedral, you found the first Lorestone of Varetta. As you held the crystal triumphantly in your hand, its power was transfused into your being, and the location of the second stone formed slowly in your mind--Herdos.
The remote township of Herdos stands upon the shore of Lake Khor, high in the Xulun Mountains of Dessi. Here the Elder Magi, the magicians who rule the land, helped Sun Eagle on his quest long ago. Time has turned full circle, and once more their aid is sought by a warrior of the Kai.
'Fate has brought you to us, Lone Wolf,' intones Rimoah, ... ... ... There isn't explicitly told if LW went directly from Tekaro to Herdos, but maybe he had a break in the Kai monastery
Book 7 - ending: allowed implicit (in Elzian)
Book 8 - allowed explicit (in Elzian)
Book 9 - beginning: allowed explicit (in Elzian) Book 9 - ending: unsure, implicit LW travels directly to Eru (maybe Elder Magi bring his stuff to Tahou...)
Book 10 - beginning: unsure, implicit LW travels directly to Eru (maybe Elder Magi bring his stuff to Tahou...)
Book 10 - ending: not allowed (falling into Daziarn)
Book 11 - not allowed
Book 12 - allowed implicit(LW returns to sommerlund, lord Ardan has "vision" about LW's return, so he can bring LW's stuff to Toran - section 166)
Book 13 - allowed explicit (Kai monastery)
Book 14 - allowed explicit (Kai monastery)
Book 15 - allowed explicit (Kai monastery)
Book 16 - allowed explicit (Kai monastery)
Book 17 - beginning: allowed explicit (Kai monastery) Book 17 - ending: not allowed (the Kai monastery has been attacked, so no one could get items from it)
Book 18 - beginning: not allowed (the Kai monastery has been attacked, so no one could get items from it) Book 18 - middle: allowed implicit (When LW reach the Vault of the Sun - sections 51 and 346) Book 18 - ending: allowed implicit (Kai monastery)
Book 19 - beginning: not allowed Book 19 - ending: not allowed
Book 20 - beginning: allowed implicit (LW returns to Tyso, lord Ardan or Kai Masters may bring his stuff there)

Honza, thank you for the detailed list... Are any of those instances when LW is accessing his storage mid-game? It seems like from outspaced description that the book 12 one would be mid-game... and that it would be categorized as "implicit". Would you mind going back labelling the ones that say "allowed" as either "implicit" or "explicit"? I would really appreciate that.
Plus, if anyone else has other insights/opinions about the above list, please speak up!
Lastly, is there any instance when Lone Wolf would be able to access his stored items at the end of a particular book without having that same access at the beginning of the next book? (Right now, in my program, LW can only access storage at the beginning of a book, before turning to the numbered sections. )

Thanks, Honza! I'm a bit confused at your entry for book 2, however, as I can't find anywhere in the text where it says Lone Wolf may leave items with the King... so I'd say it's implicit, since of course he can do it - but it never mentions so in the text.
BTW, the whole reason I care so much about the distinction is that one of the "house rules" options is whether to allow access to storage in all books. So, for books in which it is explicit, only on those books, is LW able to access storage when playing "by the book". On books in which it is implicit (not mentioned in the text at all), the player only has the option of accessing storage if they choose the "Extra Storage" option. And then there are those books for which, even if they chose "Extra storage" it makes absolutely no sense at all for them to have access - like when they fall into the Daziarn, or the monastery has just been destroyed, etc.
Thanks for your help!
And it seems like I really do need to make a change to when LW can access storage, don't I? It'd make sense for Ardan to want to bring LW's stuff to make sure he's well-equipped... implicit!
Okay, I'll change it - it's a minor coding job.

Why do you distinguish between the end of one book and the beginning of the next? I've generally thought of Safekeeping as a process that occurs only in the intervals between certain adventures.

I guess at the end are you allowed to drop items, at the start are you allowed to pull/drops items
So you can't drop the platimum amulet in to storage at the end of book 11 to gain a second one in book 12, but you could drop items at the start of book 12 in to storage for use in book 13 onwards
Or something

From what I'm seeing, any situation that would prevent you from accessing storage at the end of a certain book always carries over into the beginning of the next. Therefore, access to storage only needs to happen at the beginning of a book, and not the end.
Except for book 12, it seems, in which we might need access in the middle.
Hmmm. I'm going to have to come up with something for the whole Grandmaster "only xxx items allowed to carry over" thing, too... That's a related but seperate issue to this thread.
Are there other instances in the series where LW might be able to access storage in the middle of the book?

Are there other instances in the series where LW might be able to access storage in the middle of the book? As far as I know, there are only two of them. One in book 12 (section 166) and one in book 18 (sections 51 and 346)

One comment: As per the rules of the books it is possible to do 'safe-keeping' from book five on only. As book five is the first to introduce the rule of safe-keeping. Possibly the rebuilding of the monastery is still in progress till that point in time.
Just in case that's not obvious anyway..

I'm guessing it was more a case of it not being thought of until then. Unless you are a packrat, it is unlikely you would find that many items you want to keep until that point.

Well, arguably... possibly a potion of Alether, a potion of concentrated Alether, the Sommerswerd... that's nothing to sneeze at! I'm guessing the reason for introducing it at that point rather is that it's the first time when it could be wise to leave the Sommerswerd behind (gameplay-wise). But nevertheless, TCoK: The Story So Far mentions "Work to rebuild the monastery was about to commence when" (...) TCoD dosn't mention the monastery at all (IIC). So quite possibly the rebuilding was still in progress the year TCoD takes place. Consequently Lone Wolf wouldn't be able to leave stuff in safe-keeping at the monastery before SotS. period.
