(View the current Hall of Fame on the Seventh Sense Website.)
Okay, folks, now that you can actually play through two entire series, it is possible to get your name in the [glow=red,2,300]Hall of Fame![/glow]
Here's how to do it:
#1: Play through either a whole series (Kai and/or Magnakai), having selected "By-the-Book" or "Hardcore" Gameplay Rules when starting the campaign. If you die in a book, you don't have to start over with book 1! Just restart that same book, using the "use saved campaign data" option. (You do *not* have to complete the run in one sitting. Just quit and resume as you need to... You do get special accolades for actually completing a run without dying, but it's certainly not required!)
#2: After completing Book 5 or 12, you'll be notified that you have qualified for a Hall of Fame. You don't have to stop playing at that point, but you may as well, if you'd like to submit your run to me. (You must submit the file *before* starting a new campaign with this profile, however, or the savegame data will be lost.)
#3: Next, exit the program, and find the user folder for Seventh Sense (e.g. "C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Documents\Seventh Sense"). Navigate to the "data" folder and then to the "profiles" folder. (Depending on your OS, the folder may be in a different location. A search for "Seventh Sense" on your hard drive ought to yield positive results!)
(On standalone versions, just look in the installation folder for "data\profiles")
#4: Find the resumeX.dat file that corresponds with the profile slot of your game (X = your profile slot; if you are first on the profiles list, then resume1.dat is your saved game). If you're not sure which one is correct, start the program, and open the Profiles menu option - that will list them for you.
#5: Attach that resumeX.dat file to an email and send it to david.olsen@projectaon.org. Be sure to include the name that you'd like to have appear on the Hall of Fame!
#6: Wait patiently for me to validate the resume file - I must check a few things (like how many books you finished, which gameplay rules you used, and the like). Once I validate the file, I'll post your name to the Hall of Fame page on the Seventh Sense Website!
Getting your name on the Hall of Fame may take many attempts through the books. You should experiment to find the best combination of Disciplines and Equipment for your playstyle. Getting through on Hardcore will be even more difficult, so best of luck to you!
One further clarification: Players can appear on BOTH types of Halls of Fame (Hardcore AND By the Book). But only once per Hall of Fame (e.g. if you previously completed By-the-book having restarted a few times along the way, and have an entry on the By-the-book hall of fame, you can "upgrade" your entry by completing a By-the-Book run and doing so without restarting once. Your name would then appear on the By-the-book No Death hall of fame, and would be removed from the "regular" By-the-Book HOF). And one last point - for a play-through to count as No-Death, you just have to start at book 1 and don't die after that. The "Restart/Death" count is reset anytime you choose "Start a New Campaign", or in-game choose Re/Start a book from scratch.
Cheaters never prosper...
One of the basic ways to cheat would be to simply copy the "resumeX.dat" file which resides alongside the campaign save files, back it up somewhere, and then quit and copy it back over (saving your spot at the beginning of a tough battle, for instance, and "restoring" it there if things went badly...) I have included checks in the program that would detect this sort of tampering, so please don't do it! It would invalidate your savegame file, and prevent you from getting in the Hall of Fame.
Are there ways to cheat that I won't be able to detect? Of course, especially now that the source code is available. Is it worth finding them out just to get your name on the Hall of Fame? Of course not! Please, don't cheapen the honor of your name appearing on those lists with the dishonorable act of cheating to get there. I'm not going to wax anymore ethical than that; let's keep it real - and everyone will be happy!
NOTE TO NON-CHEATERS: If you copy the resume/save file from one device to another (or even to the same device), it will invalidate the file, even if you are just moving it to your laptop/desktop/USB drive, etc. to play on a different device. If you wish to have a portable installation of Seventh Sense that you can play anywhere, your best bet is to download the "standalone" version, unzip it to a USB drive, and play it directly from the USB drive. You can take that anywhere, and it won't invalidate the save file for a Hall of Fame check.
Another note related to the above info: If you complete book 5 or 12, and it *doesn't* say "Congrats, you've qualified for a Hall of fame...", that's because the program already sees that you won't qualify. So, really, you should only send me a file if you are notified by the program at the end of a series...
Now, get out there and defeat some Darklords!
