In anticipation of LW16's release (soon? pretty please?), here's the poll for villains for the first half of the Grand Master series. I had to do some digging, and for convenience I've labeled each choice with the book it's in. I obviously chose my poor slain scribe Cordask, but feel free to choose somebody else.
On an unrelated note, why doesn't Project Aon have the rights to the illustrations for the GS series? Some of them were very atmospheric, such as the picture of Mother Magri hunched over the Kazim Stone.

Currently, Project Aon have been unable to contact Paul Bonner, who did the artwork for the Grey Star series. We think we do have a means to contact him, thanks to an eagle-eyed member of this forum, and hopefully a representative will be doing so in the near future (barring various and necessary RL things).
If anyone knows the whereabouts of any of the 'missing' Lone Wolf artists, we'd be happy to hear from you. Visit the Help section and look at the various threads there. The same is true for anyone who may own copies of the original Lone Wolf Club Newsletters: please visit the Help section and look under the 'Newsletter Archaeologists' thread regarding pages currently missing from our online versions.
We now return you to your scheduled thread . . .

I will opt for that Nadziran with the polymorph abilities in LW 14...who guarded Banedon's cell.
First you fight him as a "monkey", then he changes and becomes a dragon...two very tough fights in a row...

At first I wasn't sure how far they are "qualified" as Background Villains, but as the Tukodak Guardians from The Darke Crusade are also listed, here's my favourite:
The handful of Vazhag archers that chase you around the Plague laboratory of Mogaruith in The Plague Lords of Ruel! That whole scene was a lot of fun, and escaping these little rats by swinging on that chain over the acid that has flooded the floor ... very memorable! (Even now I can still hear their frustrated squeaks when I got away! ;D)
Glad I can vote for them; wouldn't have been easy to decide between Cordask, Exterminus and the "Banedon Helghast" ...
BTW, that Vodok beastie from Captives of Kaag was also a nasty one! (But that was just a shape of that polymorphed Nadziran who later became a dragon, right? The "monkey" Wild Horse mentioned?)

Here: www.projectaon.org/xhtml/lw/14tcok/sect293.htmwe can find some clues. I always assumed they were two separate entities, the ice dragon being the nadziranim sorcerer who enters from the far side of the hall. As for my vote, it goes to the Ruel Giganite. That's one of the most frightening battles in Lone Wolf's career.

I always assumed they were two separate entities, the ice dragon being the nadziranim sorcerer who enters from the far side of the hall. Yeah, that was what I thought at first, too! But Wild Horse's comment made me study that scene some more, and it is said that the " hovering shadow" that arose from the Vodok's corpse " is changing shape once more" and transforms into that Nadziran-polymorphed-Dragon ... On the other hand, as you said, you see the wispy shadow of a Nadziran near that alcove on the far side of the hall while the Vodok goes for the attack. And I doubt there were two Nadziranim present ... And the dragon was called " polymorphed Nadziranim" - hey, wait, that's plural! A typo? - while the Vodok was not. A bit unclear, that matter, but as I would prefer the Vodok to be a creature of it's own, I'll go for your interpretation, Nyxator! The Wytch-King

I just found the Tukodaks especially memorable for some reason.

Gnagusk (the pig-like beast that attacks you when you discover the fake Banedon in book 14) is my choice. Never saw a pig that is so hard to kill before this one

I have to vote for the Nadziran who transformed into the Vodok and Ice Dragon. I say this because it was so memorable to me that I remembered it later and did something similar in my own game. What a great fight that was! Knocked two players unconscious and two of the remaining three down to less than 10 EP!

My favorite would be 2 xaghash below the torture chamber in lw14. Stupid things had a cs of 52 and an ep of 60. Holy crap.
