Let's celebrate our collective geekhood a bit If you were a Kai Lord, which skills d'you think you'd have (never mind level too much... we'd all be GMs, I'm sure ? Pick as many or as few answers as you like - based on your hobbies and personality. I'd definitely have Kai screen - I'm such a stubborn bastard, and a big skeptic. None of this brainwashing wishy-washy nonsense interests me I'd also definitely have weaponskill - I've been training martial arts for years, and it's probably my biggest hobby. I think I'd probably have some rudimentary Kai Alchemy skills... I've recently started learning card and coin magic, so it's just a step up from there Nexus, definitely - like I said, I'm too stubborn for my own good. The unstoppable force to move the immovable object Kai Surge for the same reason - you know how a lot of enemies attack you with a sound that rises until it becomes unbearable pain in your head? That's me talking your ears off. Maybe divination... I tend to be pretty good at judging people's character quickly. I think that about covers it... Absolutely no way I'd have pathmanship, anyway - I get lost in my own garden!

First of all, pathmanship! I always know where we are suppose to go when I go out with my friends. In fact, they're always counting on me to give them the directions to our destinations! Then, I would say Psi-screen because I am immune to the screamings of my mom when she gets angry for some reasons. ;D Huntmastery is also one of the disciplines that I should master as a Kai Lord because I like camping and fishing. Finally, I would say invisibility because, well, I don't know why, it seems that I can surprise a lot of people by appearing in front of them because they never hear me coming, even if I don't want to surprise them. This is by the way one of the reasons that could make my mom screams.

Animal Kinship or Control, I guess stray cats and dogs just love me!
Kai-surge, so that I can mentally knock out whoever pisses me off that day...
I don't think I want Divination or those Mind Over Matter disciplines...I will be an evil Kai Lord once I get hold of those skills...no telling what I might do... ;D

Yeah, certain similarities between spirit walking and the Gyges ring concept spring to mind (PS feel free to incorporate New Order disciplines, if it wasn't obvious) Speaking of which, I think I might have elementalism - I have an uncanny knack for making it rain every time I step outside. Despite which, I'm pretty good at starting fires

Let's see, well, I have to agree with Black Cat above on his first point. Although it's never the first Discipline I pick, I am great about finding my way around the area and country. I would DEFINITELY develop Tracking/Pathsmanship/G.Pathsmanship early in the game. I would try to pick up on Kai Alchemy/Magi-Magic early as well as soon as they were available to me, just because I've always been fascinated with and wanted to do magic: and not that "parlor trick" stuff, mind you! Not to mention, Wytch-King does keep referring to me as his "apprentice". Sixth Sense/Divination/Telgnosis would be another early development; I get these bad feelings somtimes, and they tend to be right. I have Storm Dancers knack for causing rain, but usually only when I go for a ride on my motorcycle, or especially if I wash it. It must be some kind of ability focus for me. Elementalism, then, also because I was the designated fire-builder on camping trips, and because the wind kicks up and blows my hair into my mouth when I try to eat outside, regardless of which direction I face. Healing/Curing/Deliverance would probably also be latent. I have decent first-aid knowledge, and tend to recover from ailments much more quickly than others when I actually do get sick, which is rare. I guess that's five! Edit: I have to add a sixth. With three cats and a lifelong interest in animals, I would have to at least have Animal Kinship, although I don't have any clue as to how well I'd do with the latter versions.

Strangely enough, some of the disciplines I'd have or develop mirror those already named in earlier posts, and for comparable reasons ... Black Cat and I seem to share that ability of being stealthy without intent, so I'd have Camouflage/Hunting / Invisibility / Assimilance. Like Black Cat and Relenoir I would have Tracking / Pathmanship; orientation and "navigation" in unfamiliar environments are fun, and some of my friends tend to leave that to me ... Storm Dancer's "stubborn bastard and [...] sceptic" describe me as well, so that would be Kai-Screen as third discipline. As I seem to get along well with animals (and tend to communicate with our dog in growls etc.), Animal Kinship / Animal Control would be appropriate as well. (The dog won't always obey, so no Animal Mastery.) That fascination for magic Relenoir the Apprentice (*g*) mentioned I share completely and obsessively. Has always been difficult for me to create player characters who are not capable of at least a bit of magic (or the Force, in case of Star Wars). So I'd take Magi-magic and Kai-alchemy as soon as I can! (And probably would attempt to get some Shianti to train me as Banedon and Lord Rimoah did ... ) As my sense for other people's personalities doesn't seem to be too far off, I would add Sixth Sense, maybe even Divination to my list as well. Now a new one: Considering that I don't seem to feel extremes of heat and cold as strongly as about any other person I know, Nexus belongs to my disciplines as well. (If I only knew how to use it for mentally moving objects ...) A discipline that's in the early stages of development might be Weaponskill (Bow), but as of now, I cannot really lay claim to it. Hm, let's see ... 1, 2, 3, ..., 9. Sounds complete to me. The Wytch-King

9, eh? You ol' powermonger!
Heh, I hadn't really considered levels of the skill too much. I'd just written them down as they came to me. Maybe I should go back and edit sometime (when I'm not procrastinating stuff I really need to be getting on with).

Kai Skills: I always picked Mind Sheild, Healing and Hunting when starting out. I would always want a defence against psychic attacks, Healing makes sense for obvious reasons, and I picked Hunting so I would not have to use space on meals.
Magnakai Skills: Psi Screen, Curing and Huntmastery were always picked, for the same reasons the similar Kai Skills were picked. Invisibility was picked too, for obvious reasons.
Grandmaster Skills: I went with the GM versions of the above skills, plus Kai Alchemy, which I almost always chose over Magi Magic.
As you can see, I went with the skills that were primarily defensive in nature, and with the skills that allowed me to be less easily detected. I felt a more stealth orientated approach to the adventures tended to pay best dividends, in terms of staying alive longer.

This is a fun thread. And since I am new to this community it seems like a good way to introduce myself. Speaking of which, I can't tell you all how excited I am (though maybe you've noticed from my incessant rambling posts from the past two days) that I've found a community of fellow Lone Wolf fanatics like myself. As for my disciplines... first off, I'd take Pathmanship because, like Relenoir and Black Cat and the Wytch-king, I always tend to know my way around whatever place I'm in, and I have a good sense of direction. Even as a kid my parents relied on me to know which way to go. I'd also take Mind over Matter. I think that by focusing the mind you can achieve what you want in the physical world. A lot of this comes from my training in martial arts, which like Storm Dancer is a big hobby of mine... though I wouldn't have chosen Weaponskill because the martial arts I do are all weapon-less. But then, maybe I'm just learning Weaponmastery at the advanced (forget the rank) level where you can fight without a weapon with no penalty. I'd probably also have Sixth Sense/Divination, because I am a good judge of character and I usually trust my instincts. And I would take Animal Kinship because I love animals... well, cats and dogs at least. I definitely would not have Healing/Curing/Deliverance, because I seem to get sick too often, and I wouldn't have Nexus because I seem to get cold easily and I really dislike cold weather... haha. I wouldn't take Hunting either because I'm not much of a hunter/fisher and I don't like killing things.

I'd pick just one Kai skill - the ability to flip back a few sections when I find out that I just made a Bad Move.

Well, [nuts] if i'm a Grand Master, than give me all of em.
My personal favorite was always Divination, though. And invisibility would be pretty cool... and who wouldn't want to talk to animals... and what about blasting people's minds?... and being able to heal, yeah... weaponmastery, that's a given...
I think the point is, they are all pretty damn cool.
As for the actual gamebooks, I think the best starting discipline (Flight from the Dark) are:
Healing (For obvious reasons. I never used to take healing, and that should be considered a challenge in it's own right)
Mindshield (technically you don't need it till the second book, but LW doesn't know that, right? In any case, there's nothing more annoying than losing EP for no apparant reason... besides your mind imploding)
Mindblast (extra CS is always welcome)
Sixth Sense (Most commonly asked for discipline in the books)
The last one is up to your playing style, though I'd suggest Camouflage, Hunting, or Tracking. You can also substitute on of these for Mindshield, as long as you take Mindshield by Book 2. i'd also suggest taking Animal Kinship by Book 2, to give you a secondary path through the Helghasts.
