It would be cool to have more ranks besides "Kai Lord." There are 10 ranks shown in Book 3 alone But I do not know how hard that is to do in reality. And of course, it is just a flavor thing. Since this is a free forum service, we have only limited control over the mechanisms... we can have only 5 different post count dependent ranks (i.e. the same as the stars). For the possibilities of adding flavour if you have full control over your system, check out what Tower of the Sun has done!

I'd love to. Can't, for some reason. Man, I HATE the internet... and computers HATE me

Is it there somewhere in the French edition? I checked yesterday, and sadly they didn't include that picture in the French editions.

If one's mother were Kai and one's father were Kai, I wonder if the child would also be. I mean, is Kai a recessive or dominant trait? If dominant, the chance would be at least 75% (right?) If recessive, the chance would be at least 25%

Apparantly one can also be born from a normal set of parents, and yet be a kai lord.

Is there a difference between Kai Monks and Kai Lords? This question I think we threw around for a little while is finally answered in Newsletter 5.
---
Strictly speaking, there is no distinction between the term warrior and monk. During long periods of peace, the Kai devoted themselves to study and training, which prompted outsiders to call them monks because their order was separate from the rest of Sommlending society. During times of war, they formed important army units in the Sommlending army. They wore armour and their higher-ranking masters were placed in command of all troops (Kai and regular army soldiers). Hence, they were also called warriors.

Back to the original question. . . This is a crazy question, but... Where exactly in the books does it say Lone Wolf is male? (Never mind the illustrations). Nobody mentioned this, but also I would argue that because the Legends series was based on the gamebooks, LW being male was definitely something Joe told Grant/Barnett. Also, thanks for pointing out that small picture in #18. I'd been looking for something like that, but had only glanced at the large pictures. Nice job!

You know, I can't believe that I never saw that picture before. Then again, it is very small and the girl is not explicitly a Kai. But Joe missed an obvious opportunity to show women when LW is meeting with his Grand Masters in Book 18. They are all male!
NS.
Edit: "the girl is not explicitly a woman". Ishir! I either need help or need to go to bed. Probably both!

Heh. I'd rather get in on the Lone Wolf/Banedon yaoi sessions. They sound like great fun! NS. Edit: And just think how useful Huntmastery and Pathmanship would be? (Don't need to see in the dark, heightened sense of touch, innate location ability...)

Yes. You haven't lived unless you've combined mind over matter with the conjuring powers of the brotherhood.

That's just. . . wrong! Somehow, I'm still grinning about it though!

Hi folks,
Just logged on to the forum for the first time in ages, and saw this old thread.
I don't have my Legends books any more, but I do have a vague memory which might help clear things up...
At the end of 'Eclipse of the Kai', when Lone Wolf is searching the ruined Kai Monestery, one of the corpses he finds is of a beautiful young girl, who, rather inconveniently, has had her heart eaten out.
Presumably she must have been either a Kai Lord or was being trained as one. Anyone with the book want to confirm what is said about her? It's been a good 15 years since I read it....

Yeah, I remember that part, but once again, this is the work of Barnett/Grant, and although Joe okayed it, I think we're trying to find specific examples in the gamebooks. Why, another Kai of course! At least, that's what my character in LWRPG is. Both her parents are/were Kai Lords.

Yeah, page 229 of Eclipse of the Kai. If you look about halfway down the first paragraph on that page it reads: (The preceding text is (c) Paul Barnett 1989) Well remembered, Vonotar, though it seems a strange and very obscure thing to commit to memory.
