That would be wonderful. The full Magnakai cycle for christmas would be a great present, for sure.

What takes the longest time now is trying to do all of my dissertation paperwork remotely (long-distance), and dealing with one committee member being in New York while the rest are in Oklahoma.
(I thought I would have a lot more free time from "dissertation stuff" once my reading copy was submitted, but it has not been the case...)
p.s. Nov 3 is the big day for my defense. Less than three weeks left!

great What takes the longest time now, is it each battle stats etc? or is it to check for specific skills? I was curious about that too. PhD requirements aside, what method are you using to parse the book data in C++? And I'm guessing you're modifying the data for your own structure, but are you using the XMLs or HTML as a source? I ask because I'm toying with the idea of making a book reader too.

I'm reading from the HTML contained in the .zip files. I just have a simple loop that sucks out all of the text, applies some specific formatting when it finds various HTML style tags, and then I use my editor to process the various buttons that need to be done.
Some things can be automated very easily - basic combats, "turn to xxx" statements, "pick a random number" stuff. Other stuff takes work. If you are going to do a book reader, I highly recommend starting with book 5. If you can make your reader deal with book 5, then the prior four books will be easy in comparison. However, if you only start with book 1, each book will be progressively harder, and make you more likely to just stop - there have been several projects that halted after a few books because of the increasing complexity.
I even went back and did a complete re-write of my program after 3 books. Frankly, I'm tempted to do another one after I finish book 12, but it might just be worth it to stick with it the way it is... Anyway, good luck to you if you do start one - it can be a lot of fun!
