Okay Guys & Gals, it's time you realised something- you have been misled egregiously over the nature of LW & his enemies, seeing the issues of Magnamund through the Distorting Lens of Kaist propaganda. It's time you learned the truth about the so-called hero Lone Wolf & his imperialist pals in Dessi, Lencia & the Lastlands. Firstly, The Kai 'Massacre'Why are there no marked graves around the Kai Monastery & why have several prominent Kai been seen in Dessi, Slovia, Palmyrion & The Lakuri Isles? Supposedly the Kai were slaughtered ALMOST to the last man in 5050. Supposedly only 'Lone' Wolf remained & was justified in pronouncing a Jyhad against The Darklanders (or Lightsparing Folk as they prefer to be called). So why were there dozens of sightings of men clad in green robes, answering the description of numerous high ranking kai lords, AFTER the supposed destruction of their order? Let me quote ex Vakeros Death Flower; "From as early as 5048 I could see the northlanders roaming my country with increasing frequency & lack of regard for local communities & wildlife. The Magi & the high-ranking Vakeros gave them free reign & I wept at the ruin they brought upon my land. Soon the rainforests were stripped bare of alether & laumspur, & the landscape was littered with smashed barrels, once containing Bor Brew. Noodnic infestation was rife endangering our rich & diverse range of local agarashi. When I complained I was told to shut up & "make our guests feel welcome". Soon after my superiors trumped up some charge of dabbling in right-handed magic & I was lucky to escape with my life!" The truth is that the kai had been borrowing heavily for years to pay for their hunting lodges, their river boats, their servants, prostitutes, ore, herbs & gambling debts. They had invested heavily in the great Korlinium Rush of 5041 in the hope of revitalising their ailing finances, but when that turned out to be a flash of a fireseed they knew they were sunk. That's when they started taking out steep insurance policies in Lyris, Vassagonia & the newly opened Independent Bank of Ljuk. Of course many kai objected & tried to insist on a return to the old ways. The 'massacre' was mostly a purge of those traditionalists. Indeed, countless drakkarim interviewed after the conflict report that most of the kai were already dead BEFORE they reached them The Purge was widely thought to have been spearheaded by Winter Owl & Storm Hawk, both seen alive & well on several occasions throughout the 5050s. One of Winter Owls top students was none other than Silent Wolf- later to call himself Lone Wolf, poster boy for a new age of Sommlending/Dessian expansionism....

Secondly, The 'Traitor' VonotarI should probably mention first of all a fact conveniently missed out of most current approved Sommlending history books- Vonotar was a financial wizard, who handled not only the accounts of The Brotherhood of the Crystal Star, but also Prince Pelathar, Baron Vanalund and, yes you've guessed it, The Order of the Kai. Vonotar went along with most of their shady dealings at first, but when he figured out what they were planning his conscience forbade him from condoning mass murder & war crimes on a scale unseen for generations. When he tried to go public it was he that was betrayed & he was forced to flee Sommerlund. Using the necromantic powers of the sunsword Lone Wolf & his Crystal Star cronies summoned a horde of undead to chase down his boat, then accused Vonotar of summoning them himself! Afterwards, pretending Vonotar was still alive, Lone Wolf double-crossed Zagarna (who had been promised the throne of Holmgard) & assassinated him, sewing the seeds for conflict in North Magnamund for the next 20 years.... So who was the hunchback thrown in the 'Shadow Gate' of Toran? None other than the Brumalmarc Gromilduun, king of the Kaltese, & head of the Independent Bank of Ljuk!

Thirdly, the 'Invasion' of RuanonIt is important to remember at this point that although more jingoistic elements of Sommlending society insist on calling Ruanon part of Sommerlund, for most of its existence it was ethnically Vassa. The Sommlending have occupied it for centuries, forcing the ethnic Vassa peoples into slave labour down their hellish mines, driving them to near extinction in the process. The economic importance of this rich mineral seam endures however & currently Ruanese mining communities are a mix of Somm, Wildlander & Vassa, still one of the most impoverished people of Northern Magnamund, despite the international Ore-extracting Communities Treaty signed in Magador, 4989. Baron Vanalund is an ex kai & virtual puppet of the Order, providing them with one of the few reliable income streams they have had available to date. But the Ruanese people pay the price, still living a miserable existence, barely better than slavery. They thought their struggles would never come to an end until the renegade Vassagonian Barraka promised to liberate them & put them in control of the wealth they worked so hard to produce. Needless to say, this did not fit in with the plans of the kai & who should appear, standing truth on its head once more, our old friend Lone Wolf of course...

Yes, I agree with this telling. We were making infant formula at Ruel when some guy in green comes unannounced and trashes the place ! We tried to file a legal injunction against him from returning to our general vicinity, but by that point his green hooded felons had overtaken the courts of the country. No chance at extradition.
It is important to remember the early evidence at Gorn Cove. This guy might have hired a bunch of image consultants since then, but it barely masks his thinly veiled threats and cowardly actions.

Fourth, The Assassination of Zakhan MoudallaWhat a coincidence Lone wolf happened to be in Barrakeesh juuust around the time that Zakhan Moudalla went to play Samor with The Majhan. Especially considering that the Vassagonians were the kais biggest creditors. ;)Moudalla saw through the insurance scam & point blank refused to honour the agreement, given that for one, the kai had taken out similar policies in other countries breaking at least a dozen financial regulations, & for another, the 'massacre' looked a little fishy to say the least (see above). He insisted on the kai or their representatives paying their debts to Vassagonian merchants in full & also hinted to LW that they had uncovered the secret location of the Book of the Magnakai. This book, supposedly 'lost' by the kai had been hidden by them for good reason. The Good Book, written by Sun Eagle, tells the truth about the dealings of the Order- as they got progressively more shameful & deceptive through the centuries it became imperative to hide away its judgement from those fair minded enough to see their corruption as it truly is. Lone Wolf did away with wily Moudalla & after evading justice for a couple of days managed to sneak in to the private gardens of the weak-minded new Zakhan & bribe him with a powerful artifact, forged with Kai Weaponcraft, to allow him to retrieve the Book & hide it in a safer place. If you think this all too implausible remember this: almost every person to have had financial dealings with the kai met a sticky end soon after coming into close proximity of the young kai lord; Vonotar- their accountant, Lord Paido in Dessi & Lieutenant Rhygar in Durenor- either end of their mercantile banking operations, Crown Prince Pelathar....

Ruel was noted, not only as a hub of excellence in the fields of medicine, animal husbandry, forest conservation & the harbouring of the oppressed & downtrodden, but also as a major competitor in the production of valuable herbs, both legal & illegal. This made it a major competitor to Somm/Dessi/Bautarian interests in the adgana fields of the occupied lands of the Lightsparing Peoples, now a major international cashcow. You don't have to pretend you were making baby milk, I doubt you will be allowed to export effectively any more, even if you can recover from the sabotage of your cutting edge R&D department.

Fifth, The 'Lost' LorestonesSun Eagle found all of the Lorestones of Nyxator at the cost of a LOT of time & effort, ie the greater part of his remaining years & every last crown of his baronial legacy, not to mention the massive risks involved in breaching these lairs full of agarashi. Do you really think he left their care to chance? There is growing evidence to indicate that the kai engineered the War of the Lorestone, promising it to both sides. Why would they do such a thing? Because they were selling arms & training mercenaries for both sides of the conflict. One of the princes discovered this & was on the verge of exposing them & suing for peace, then the lorestone was conveniently 'lost'. In a river would you believe... In truth the lorestones of Varetta, Tahou & Ohrido have been in safekeeping for centuries by the Sages of Lyris; nothing more than a kai front set up by Grandmaster Striking Cobra to direct affairs in the Stornlands & safeguard the secret of the stones. It is no coincidence that after Lone Wolf's contact Gwynian was exposed by the people of Varetta & driven out by a grass roots movement for truth & democracy, that he should turn up where else but Tahou! Just in time to help LW 'find' the lorestone there.... The only lorestone that genuinely proved difficult to obtain was Herdos. Many centuries ago the Vakeros resistance to Magiocratic rule was at its peak & the Magi in a fit of egalitarianism tried their first (& last) experiment with democracy. In the end, after much contoversy, double-dealing & in fighting (see Brother Kadrian's Secret History of the Magi for more about this fascinating period & the struggles of the free Vakeros), a candidate emerged victorious, beloved by the Vakeros & respected by his fellow Magi. His name was Zahda. He appeared to be a unifying force at first, but when he started talking seriously about emancipation of both the Vakeros and the sentient Agarashi, information sharing with the nadziranim (instead of merely their lackeys in Bautar & Sommerlund), and an end to covert interference in almost half the governments of North Magnamund, the Council of Elzian decided he had to go. They planted spurious evidence of demon worship, then arranged a coup, killing most of his followers almost overnight. Zahda took refuge in Castle Khor & used the power of the lorestone & a doomstone combined to defend against the combined might of Elzian & the right wing remnants of the Vakeros. Lone Wolf succeeded in assassinating him, some say he won his trust by bringing him the head of Kasin, the last in a long line of would be Vakeros assassins. The removal of this thorn in the side of the Magi allowed them to concentrate their efforts in other directions, mainly in developing a new generation of explosive devices, based on stolen cutting edge Cener research on the properties of korlinium crystal. This would of course be used to devastating effect later on in the Blasting of Helgedad. So why the charade? The simple answer is that it gave Lone Wolf an opportunity to remove a few inconvenient witnesses of the various nefarious dealings of Elzian & the kai, & further their ambitions. In the Stornlands he worked with & trained various mercenary groups dedicated to the destabilising of the region & the overthrow of the Slovian government. He almost succeeded in assassinating Lord Roark on 2 occasions, a well known campaigner for peace & reconciliation across the region. Logically one might have expected him then to have gone to Tahou, to secure the lorestone well known to be situated there, but no. He goes almost out of his way to avoid it on the way to his friends at Elzian. The truth is that he had access to that 'lost' lorestone all along, it was only when his puppet Zakhan slipped the leash & threatened to slip his tongue that they used the lorestone as an excuse to lure the Zakhan who knew too much into Tahou in order to silence him permanently. Apparently the Zakhan in his naivete thought that as LW had been very publicly witnessed NOT carrying his sunsword he was vulnerable: he did not realise that the kai could not only craft an orb of enormous power, but special rings to render an assassin immune to its effects... Before disposing of the Zakhan he had of course lured the other contact in the kai's failing mercantile operations- Lord Paido- into the swamp of the Danarg, never to be seen again. If you believe the yarn he span of seeing him again in Torgar, you truly are naive. Why then did LW not take the opportunity to fly over to Luomi & grab the lorestone there? It was closer to him than Elzian from the Danarg, & friendly territory? This mystery has baffled many so-called Quest Scholars, but the simple truth is this & it is shocking - Gnaag had already promised him all 3 remaining lorestones! Witnesses at the Temple of the Sword in Tharro, all of them devout men of the cloth, state that Lone Wolf & Paido were honoured guests, but during a meal there Lone Wolf drugged his companion & accessed a secret room where there was the remains of a bowl of silvery fluid known to be Gnaag's favoured means of communication. It is believed that at that time Lone Wolf negotiated with Gnaag for him to collect the 3 remaining lorestones (remember the other 4 were already in his possession at this time) & hand them over at Torgar at an agreed date. Gnaag kept his part of the bargain, expecting Torgar to mark an end to the war & an opportunity for the warmongers on both sides to redraw the boundaries & count their spoils. This did not happen for 2 reasons; Firstly, the war was proving economically & politically profitable on both sides of the Durncrags, so there was a will to extend it a few years. Secondly, Lone Wolf, in the time he spent with the Hammerlanders (remember he claims to have become lost in the Hellswamp for 2 weeks!) became hopelessly addicted to a cocktail of calacena, alether & adgana, known as Black Zakhans. He was hardly in a fit state to walk, let alone play the part of the conquering hero. So he was left to get Hammered with the Hammerlanders in Blackshroud for several years, till the war became too costly. Little did Gnaag realise that his nadziranim would double-cross him & cut a deal with the Magi, developing a device that allowed the Darklords to travel outside the Lightspared Lands only to perish when the pounds of deadly crystal explosive hidden in the bottom were detonated. So at the appointed time Lone Wolf was cleaned up, sent to assassinate the inconveniently placed Kraagenskul then brought close enough by the ambitious double agent Kadharian (soon to become another Magian puppet leader) to detonate the device by remote control, at the cost of millions of innocent lives.

Oh, how shocking this all is! *faints clean away* I know it's hard to take. I too believed for a long time that Lone Wolf was the great Skarn, saviour of all Magnamund & the universe. WAKE UP & SMELL THE JALA! Do not be a sweet smelling zombie. Free yourself from the illusions of the Kai. Think for yourself. Stop believing the lies of the Magi! Remember this; the kai apprentices & the Magi Puppet Masters will not rest till all Magnamund is in their grasp- do not be their unwitting pawns.....

Surely you don't believe all that crap about 'oh Naar got hold of the Moonstone [supposedly guarded by the Shianti in the heart of The Plane of Light! ] & used it to awaken armies of undead & historical leaders, send dragons, doppelgangers, demons to various random corners of the globe, till mighty Lone Wolf battled his way through all the various Princes of Hell to get it back- COME ON!! Sixth, The Lencian CrusadeThe Lencians have been banging on for centuries about their 'lost lands' & dreams of a Greater Lencia. The fact is that all evidence about events a couple thousand years ago points to the fact that Lencians & Drakkarim coexisted peacefully together for a few hundred years. It was only when the Lencian nobility fearing the emergence of a prosperous mixed race mercantile class that they started trying to 'bring the Lencian people back to their Vaderish roots' in the words of Sage Godhorian. What this amounted to was segregation in schools, temples, libraries, farmer's markets & the military. This escalated to discrimination, violence, slavery & ethnic cleansing . Tired of being treated like second-class citizens the Drakkarim rebelled & forged one of their most sacred lorestones into a sceptre that served as a symbol for liberation & self determination. The took the city of Gadorvo for their capital & several northern cities (where they where they were more ethnically numerous) & returned them to a more egalitarian regime, in the style of the Lencia of an earlier & more tolerant time. The Vaderish were welcome to remain, as equals, but they chose to retreat to their southern realms where they could continue in xenophobic isolation. On numerous occasions the Lencians have attempted to re-establish control of the Republic of Nyras, seeking to wipe out the existing populations & create lebenraum for their atavistic feudal regime. Until recently, the brave folk of Nyras have resisted their attempts, but since the assassination of their national hero Magnaarn & the wanton destruction the Nyras Sceptre, their most sacred relic, their will seems to be broken.... The Lencians are, of course, great customers of the kai arms trade, Somm/Bautar herb supply & Magian explosives.....

How dumb do they think we are!? The Moonstone is placed in the Daziarn by the Shianti when Ishir appears to them and tells them it threatons the balance just prior to the rise of the Darklords. It remains safely in the Daziarn (at the Trianon?) for a couple thousand years before Grey Star must seek it out, MS5050. When he returns with it (MS5057) he uses it against Shasarak and Agarash. We are not officially told what happens to it after that between MS5057-MS5081. I assume Grey Star returns it to the Daziarn, if it stayed on Magnamund there'd be disruption to the balance of nature. We are not told it goes to the Plane of Light at this point, neither are we told the Shianti reside there either. The next we hear of the Mooonstone is indeed in Bk19 Wolf's Bane when Lone Wolf realizes that this is how Naar has been able to open the Shadow Gates when he sees the Moonstone in Dazganon, Naar's palace on the Plane of Darkness. That is why in Bk 20 Lone Wolf returns to the Plane of Darkness to save the Moonstone and Alyss. Then the New Order series begins with the Grand Master (you) given the mission of returning the Moonstone to the Shianti on the Isle of Lorn, it is only then that for the first time we are told that the Shianti are to return the Moonstone to Ishir and in the Story So Far section of Book 29 the Shianti do indeed return to the Plane of Light. So, I'm not sure where this idea that Naar stole the Moonstone from the Plane of Light comes from - unless you are assuming that Grey Star places it there after defeating Shasarak BUT there is certainly nothing about Shianti guarding it there before Book 29 as they are all still on the Isle of Lorn. I always assumed Naar's Agents get the Moonstone from the Daziarn sometime before Bk16.

I always assumed Naar's Agents get the Moonstone from the Daziarn sometime before Bk16. The Passing of the Shianti
And so it was that the shame of the Shianti was absolved. With the defeat of the Wytch-king, Shasarak, the renegade Shianti Master, the Shadakine Empire he had built fell. The Shadakine people fled back to their former home in the Sadi Desert, and Grey Star--the champion of the Shianti cause--was proclaimed 'Wizard Regent' of the free peoples of the old empire, to oversee a time of rebirth and liberty. The only Shadakine who did not return to the Sadi Desert was the Lady Tanith. She and Grey Star were soon married, as many foretold they would be, to form the founding line of a magiocracy destined to rule the new confederation of free states formed from the ashes of the old empire. For the Shianti themselves a higher destiny dawned. The Goddess Ishir came to them on the Isle of Lorn and took them up to the Plane of Light. Their reward was to dwell as immortals by her side and in her service in peace and serenity.
The Wizard Grey Star saw them once before they departed and many fond and sad farewells were exchanged. To Grey Star was bequeathed the nature of true Shianti wisdom, the last of their ancient magical secrets which only a lifetime's study would unlock from the hundreds of dusty volumes, scrolls, and magical artefacts. The Moonstone was given into the care of the Shianti and taken with them into the Plane of Light, for still its power was too great to remain on Magnamund. That's where I get it from. Of course that could be more propaganda- Grey Star was setting up a new magiocracy afterall....
