Could easily be pig farming yokels...

...who were still technically nobles. Sort of the Sommerlund version of the Szlachta.

Hmm. Interesting.... I could buy that. Still, I don't know why it's so important that he be a 'noble'.
Anyway, I've got an idea for a back story that explains the Sommerswerd & the kai & the origins of the Sommlending that kind of fits in with that idea......

From the Magnamund Companion: So who are in the households of Knights of the Realm? From the same source: From this it looks like absolutely anyone could become a Kai Lord.

I always read that line of "noble fathers" to be a use of the word "noble" meaning upright and brave and good. I didn't take it to mean of a particular high-born blood-line. Like, if someone commits a "noble act", it makes them "noble", but not "a noble".
I think the Kai Lords came from all different family lines, including peasant lines. I've always imagined Lone Wolf himself coming from a humble background, though I confess, I have no idea why...

Maybe it was Legends...
Or maybe it was the accident with Jen in the river. Had LW been a noble child you imagine the 2 brothers might have been accompanied.

It's also strongly implied at the end of FFTD that Lone Wolf hasn't even seen Holmgard before, as 'You...stare in awe at the height of the city’s walls.' That seems to imply that he spent most of his early life in a rural community, and isn't that used to towns.
Interestingly, it also implies that he hasn't travelled too far with the Kai. I know he's only an initiate, but still, that may imply that the old order of Kai were mostly focussed on the defence of Sommerlund (and, perhaps to a lesser extent, Durenor) and the concept of helping with every country is something that LW introduced to the New Order, perhaps inspired by his journeying after the Lorestones. The Elder Magi, I believe, had a prophecy about Sun Eagle and LW coming, so Kai visiting couldn't have been that common an occurrence. That helps to explain how all the Kai were gathered for the feast of Fehmarn, which would be extremely awkward for the NO.

"Kai Lords generally are the noble children of Sommlending royal families. While it is possible for initiates to come from other places (such as Lone Wolf himself, essentially a foundling), such a circumstance would be rare indeed. "
