After some thought, the whole "hidden loyalty bonus thing" kind of irritates me, especially since Healing seems greatly overpowered compared to the other basic Kai skills. So, I'm going to put up some rule change ideas for those who wish to use them.
Healing: Whenever this is used in the books, it seems to function like a kind of "Cure Light Wounds" singular effect. LW applies it to someone, it heals some damage and that's it. So, my rule is that once LW exits formal Close Combat, he can roll a d10, divide by 2 round it up and apply the result as healed EP (so if you roll or pick a 7 you'd heal 4 EP). He has to be in a section without Close Combat, an EP loss or a Random Number Table check in order to do this. Aside from any notations in the text, this is the only time LW can heal himself with Healing. Finally, LW can heal up to a maximum of the damage taken within any single combat. He cannot heal damage from other combats except with Laumspur or other external aides like magic or simple rest. Example: In fighting a Gourgaz, LW takes 10 EP of damage. He rolls a 6 and heals 3 back, leaving 7. Later he fights some Crypt Spawn and takes 2 EP of damage. He makes his Healing roll and gets 9 for 5 damage restored. However, LW can only heal the 2 EP that he's just taken and will need to find other means to heal the rest.
Curing: Lone Wolf may heal as the Basic skill but now rolls the full 1d10. This rolls heals all types of damage incurred in the combat, including losses from enemy mental attacks or the environment (so LW could use the roll to heal some or all of the damage sustained from the Undead Summonation's cold in Book 6. He can even heal damage incurred from using Psi-surge in close combat, though not from other uses). Note that once again LW can only use his Curing roll to heal damage occurred in a specific combat, not from other sources or from previous combats. The only exception to this is the 20 EP "boost" he gets as an Archmaster.
Deliverance: Lone Wolf may restore 1 EP per section that he is not engaged in Close Combat or an RNT check to heal anything except deprivation damage or permanent damage (as from the prolonged use of the sword, Helshezag), though the 20 EP boost ability can even heal that. Note that when LW is reduced to 15 EP in The Darke Crusade, that counts as deprivation damage.
None of these abilities directly carry over from series to series. For that matter, the only discliplines that have a measureable effect are those available within a series. If you're in Book 6 you can't attack people with Mindblast unless you have Psi-surge. Your Weaponskill bonus from the Kai-series no longer applies and must be replaced by Weaponmastery No forgoing Meals without Huntmastery in the Magnakai series (or Grand Huntmastery in the Grand Master series)
