So, I'm new here, though I've been lurking on an off this site for years now. I missed the announcement about Mongoose Publishing, and now I feel like I'm trying to play catch up. I was very excited when I heard the Lone Wolf books were being updated with new rules and updated writing. I grew up with them after a childhood friend shared them with me, and they're one of the things that got me into the fantasy genre (my original Dever exposure was Highway Holocaust, and I wasn't sure a fantasy book would as good). I avoided the Megadeal when it was offered because it was a lot of money all at once, and it felt very ambitious trying to do 32 books in a few short years. I bought the first couple of books, but kept putting off the others because I wanted to gorge myself on them when I had more to work with. I loved the updates in the first book. I loved fighting with the Kai in the first scene, and I liked defeating the impersonator at the end (just getting to the king seemed a bit anti-climactic originally). However, now they're discontinued, and I can't help but feel like I took their accessibility for granted. The only copies I can find are on ebay, and those A.) aren't complete and B.) average about $60-80 apiece. I saw someone sell their entire collection of the first 17 for $1000, and it's starting to look like that might have been generously low.
That said, I understand Mongoose lost the rights to the trademark, but are there any plans to release the updated first 17 books anywhere in any format (I'd settle for pdf over nothing)? I'm glad we got a new publisher to carry on the series, but I'm about 15 books behind and I don't see any hope of closing that gap as it stands. Not to get too preachy, but Project Aon has proved that Lone Wolf has a very dedicated cult following of the books, but most of us got into the series a long time ago, and the health of the series is directly tied to how many new fans we can attract. If Lone Wolf is to flourish, it needs to reach out to new fans, and that means getting them access to the entry level books.
I'd also like to see more information about the multiplayer RPG, both it's past incarnation with Mongoose and it's new incarnation with Cubicle 7. I understand that the information is currently limited, I just wanted to chime in as a fan about my desire to see pdfs, print on demands, and any updates from Cubicle 7.
I understand that only a privileged few have access to any new information, and that many of them aren't free to talk about it, but I wanted to say that when they do want to talk about it, I'm eager to hear more, and I'm sure I'm not alone. A few years ago, there was word of an Oblivion-level game being made by a group in Singapore based on Flight From the Dark. They had a demo, and concept art (which made my background until my desktop died earlier this year), and we were all waiting on more word about it, but years went by and nothing was updated and eventually the whole thing just kind of fizzled into the background of the internet. Now we have a lot of new irons in the fire with the book series, the rpg series, and a new smartphone game, and I just want to say I hope to keep hearing about each of them on both their respective sites and here.
