Greetings fellow Kai Lords So after much lurking around Project Aon on and off for years, I've taken the plunge and joined the forum, spurred on by my current re-playing of the LW books after many years of not looking at them! (the shame) So to kick off my contributions, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about the current canonicity of the hardback RPG Mongoose did back in 2004, which I have a copy of. I know there have been 2 newer RPGs since then, plus its history and gazeteer background sections always seemed to not quite tie in 100% with the gamebooks, and had internal inconsistencies...for example the formation of the Maakenmire seems to have two different theories, and it is assumed that Agarash had his base in and created the Darklands, not just Naaros... So has this version of the background been superseded now, or is it pretty canonical but just a bit careless with its accuracy...?

Late but short reply: The canonicity of the Mongoose RPG is very low. Joe has made comments to this effects when people have asked him about apparent conflicts between the Mongoose RPG and other materials.

Thanks, that's useful to know. I'm kind of glad tbh, where the RPG didn't fit in with established background, I didn't like the changes...

This is the danger of letting others write for your setting without EXTREME oversight. Even people who consider themselves fans do not always understand the setting. When I read the Darklands supplement, aspects of it seemed...bizarre. The Darklands is a wasteland, and while I'm fine with the surreal being a part of a city, or a Darklord's private domain, I thought there was a little too much trippiness in it. Not all bad or wrong but just off. I still have all those, though I've never done role-playing with a group, I just wanted more lore and information.
