Dear friends, It is with heavy heart that I must bear sad news to you. Joe Dever's family have confirmed that the Grand Master has passed away after a brave and private ten-year battle with illness. More than mere entertainment, he and his works have graced so many of our lives with an example of honor and goodness that has earned our loyalty, even 30 years after the publication of the first Lone Wolf gamebook, Flight from the Dark. Though his life and his quest have come to an end, his legacy will endure. May his family and friends receive comfort in the hours and days ahead. May Ishir and Kai receive the stalwart warrior into their bosom. For Sommerlund and the Kai! Jonathan Blake Project Aon

Sad news indeed. I was not fortunate enough to meet him in person, but I got to chat with him on FB a few months back after receiving my signed copy of "Storms of Chai". Starting this weekend I will be pulling my Lone Wolf books off the shelf and going through them one by one until I complete each book in my possession.

Met the guy twice. On one occasion hung out with him for most of the weekend while I was interpreting for him at a French trade show. Lovely guy - extremely professional, extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of publishing and writing. Still possessed a bit of the 'inner geek' about him - still had a bit of the air of the young guy who would enter (and win) Dungeons and Dragons tournaments.
Upsetting news.

Sad news. I grew up reading his books. I have the spanish Collection and the recent Collector's edition. May Ishir and Kai receive the founding father of our Order.
For Sommerlund and the Kai.

I was lucky enough to meet him at GenCon '15 where he was showing off the new Lone Wolf RPG adventure game. What a great talk we had! Very very sad news indeed.

Thank you Joe. For me your books were the first step to the world of fantasy, twenty-five years ago.
May Kai and Ishir watch over you, always.

That's very sad news indeed.
I met Joe three times, at one of his games run at his house, at Mongoose where a group of us played LW RPG and at Games Day briefly.
I had great fun gaming with him.
My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

I still can't believe this... I'm still in shock over this news. Only 60 years old. Life just isn't fair sometimes. He will always be my favorite fantasy gamebook author of all time. R.I.P Joe. You will truly be missed...

He is in a better world. Finally he left Helgedad. But we are still in darkness...

Didn't find out about this until recently. Reading his quote on the site--his approval for Project Aon and why--really tells you what the man was like.
Maybe it sounds silly but I'd always wanted to meet him someday, at a convention or some such, and thank him for giving the world what he did... We can never have too much food for imagination, especially with the world the way that it is these days.
Farewell, Mr. Dever, and thank you.
