Joe Dever had a lot of painted metal miniatures which were specifically painted for use in wargames with a Magnamund setting (see Youtube - Motormouth series 4 episode 14 and also some pictures of the battle days he put on at his home for fans).
Does anyone know if there are any close-up photos of his figure collection? And if so, where are they to be found?

Thanks for the reply, well spotted. A lot of them look to be 1980's Citadel and their early Lord of the Rings range. Also some Asgard miniatures. I found the Caliver Books stand at a wargame show and bought a Joe Dever-painted figure for £5, a citadel pre-slotta Liche which he must surely have been using as a Helghast.

Just discovered this post after posting about the miniatures above. I only recently discovered them myself on Ebay. There are still some being sold on there!

I went to one of his battledays, so I have some photos. They are in a drawer somewhere, I will see if I can find them and scan them.

Also, what was the battleday like? I remember reading an account of one of Joe's battledays in GM Magazine and it sounded like they were good.

You are taxing my memory - it was a long time ago. There were only two of us that attended. It was the second battleday Joe ran. The first had had six people I believe. Joe had a huge gaming table in a dedicated gaming room. It was a very nice battlefield with everything painted. Joe was really welcoming and made us feel at home. His son Ben was very young and spent a lot of time crawling under the table and getting under our feet. We had a huge army, that was searching the battlefield for a Lorestone I think. I think I was playing the Darklord army, but I'm not 100% sure.I don't recall what game system Joe was using, though it involved each member of a unit having a percentage change top hit, and that percent being multiplied up by the number of figures. Not being familiar with the rules, we moved the figures and rolled the dice while Joe dealt with the mechanics of combat and spells. I recall my guys found the Lorestone in a church or graveyard, but the enemies archers rained heavy fire on them leaving them sorely depleted. We ran out of time before we could determine if my army got the stone away. Before we left Joe signed out books and gave us a copy of the latest book which hadn't reached the shops yet (Jungle of Horrors I think).
