(I did not yet read the new gamebook editions by Mongoose Publishing but scanned the pages of FotW.. didn't even receive FftD yet..)
But threre is one fact from the new FotW edition that made me sad:
The bonus adventure in Mongoose' FotW portrays Lord-lieutenant Rhygar as a Knight of the White Mountain! - Why?
Facts we know from the main adventure (by JD) about Rhygar are:
He is
* "Born of a Sommlending father and a Durenese mother (...)"
* the "envoy of Sommerlund"
(from section 31)
And "(...) he is clothed in the heavy armour of a Sommlending knight."
(from section 299)
This sounds to me like a Sommlending Knight.
I don't see anything that may hint to him being a Durenese Knight of the White Mountain. Instead it seems very unlikely to me that he is.
Apart from the mentioned citations above:
It seems that Knights of the White Mountain are wearing the Royal Arms of Durenor as their symbol and are a very honorable and serious bunch. - Rhygar doesn't seem to wear the White Mountain symbol anywhere..
The Order of the Knights of the White Mountain seems surely nothing to join lightly? - And I would expect some extraordinary background story to be known of him if he was to join the order.
(And we do get that kind of background info of him from section 31.)
Besides, the skills to chose from for Rhygar are adequate for any kind of knight and doesn't seem to especially fit a Knight of the White Mountain. Nor does it seem to matter for the adventure itself or the background of it?
So why is he decribed to be a KotWM at all?
I just don't get it. To me he's a Sommlending Knight!
Maybe there's a list of questions out there to ask JD at his next interview. - I would be interested in hearing an official explanation..
But for now I would like to hear about your opinion on this..
