Hi folks. I am just only on "The Darke Crusade" and loving it. See when I was a kid and did LW for the first time, I was only able to go to Book 12. I didn't know that books had gone beyond that and 13 and up didn't appear in any bookstores I visited. Fast forward many years to when I first discovered Project Aon and to my delight, new books!
So it was just three weeks ago, I began the whole series over again for the 30th time, and continued to Book 13.
Anyway, I am in book 15 as I said and Magnaarn just sealed me into the temple.
You know, I don't think an enemy has pissed me off this bad. I mean, you expect Giaks, Nadziranim, and Darklords to be truly evil so you aren't so angry. But when your fellow humans (yes, Drakkarim are still human, despite their tendency to choose evilness) like Magnaarn and Zakhan Kimah choose to screw you over, it royally honks me off.
When Magnaarn tells me he's going to make the temple my tomb, I can hear Lone Wolf shout "Magnaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn!" ala Kirk and Khan.

At least Magnaarn has the decency to be easily killed, unlike Kimah and the Chaos Master.

auch feel a bit sorry for Magaarn, that picture of him where's he's so withered by the Doom Stone! I mean, it coulda happened to Lone Wolf in Ikaya if he wasn't careful!

Yeah, I was pretty pissed off when I found myself trapped for 16 days, or however long it was.
However, the enemies that I really hate are the random psychos that just kill LW for personal gain, not knowing that LW is trying to save the world. Even worse are the ones that DO know him. I'm recalling a taxidermist somewhere...

One of my favourite books this. LW really gets it hard, really the only time that he is properly trapped and not just held in a prison with weak-minded guards. Still, even without some good discpline choices there is still a danger of death, what with your END being reduced to just 15.
Excellent stuff, if only Magaarn had actually properly killed you with the Doomstone, rather than contract a sudden bout of "badguy sets of explosion and walks away without actually confirming death" syndrome.

Thus demonstrating the truism that ever Evil Mastermind's worst enemy is and will always be himself/herself/itself.

Aye. But then who would want to play if the bad guy didnt suffer such an affliction....

There are poor good souls, deprived of all other sources of enjoyment in this world, who would still, nonetheless, feel compelled to use said evil beings as mindless punching bags they are anyway. Such is the way of things.

Just like you I had no idea that the series continued past book 12 until I found this site. I've acquired four of the books in the GM series and will have the rest eventually. I was also angry about being trapped by this guy, but I was most angry about the way LW got weak from the power of this stone that was being held by a Drakkarim with rank. After all the endless encounters with just about every form of evil possible this is the one that causes LW to get weak due to the evil that the stone radiates? Yet LW is able to function properly in the same room with Naar in later books. Personally I think that part should of been left out and the stone's power shown by sealing you in the tomb in a excessively destructive manner. Besides that I absolutely loved this book also!

Ah you hit the nail on the head there Joe. "In later books", LW was almost a Supreme Master when he was in fron of Naar. Hence his abilities would be greater then in the Darke Crusade. And besides the Doomstone is the exact opposite of a Lorestone, which literally radiated pure Evil. Im not saying that Naar didnt give off an Evil aura (who knows if he did TBH), but as concentrated as the Doomstones are with Evil power, I wouldnt be suprised it brought LW to his knees.

Especially as it is incased in the Nyras sceptre - that has been pointed out as being a powerful artifact of evil, so in the right hands....

Well of course Naar gave off an Evil aura, seeing as he is the concentration of Evil itself in the entire universe. That said, LW gains the ability to mask his good aura and even Naar can't tell Wolf's Bane and LW apart, so it's partly based on that.

Well, it's not that inconsistent. First, it's mentionned that this stone is the most powerful of the 7 doom stones. Second, it's also said that before Gnaag became Archlord, Dakushna was seen as a more likely winner only because he had this stone in his possession, so it's likely to be the most powerful weapon any Darklord ever possessed (it certainly beats the Dagger of Vashna for example). I think it's said Dakushna didn't become Archlord simply because he was not interested by the position, while Gnaag is pictured as an ambitious, traiterous Darklord.
About why Naar can't control Lone Wolf like that stone did... when you encounter him in book 19 and 20, Alyss is there using her semi-god power to protect you, so he can't do it easily. And each meeting is quite short. There's also an optional explanation if you choose to have the sommerswerd - it's said each time that Naar fears this weapon.

I just think that Magaarn overpowering Lone Wolf with this stone that he just obtained is somewhat excessive. Perhaps if Magaarn had this stone for quite some time and learned to use it's destructive power to it's fullest I would understand this happening, but not in this case.
Whe it comes down to it, Naar is the God of Evil and the evil he radiates should make anything else seem insignificant in comparison including the Doomstone. This is why he is a god after all...
