David Gordon, a friend of Joe Dever, writes in a message on the LoneWolfd20 Yahoo group:

Joe, as many of you may already know, found out at the beginning of June that he had Kidney Cancer. Good news is that he has been in hospital and is due out today. Last week he had 70% of his good kidney saved. His bad kidney will be removed in a couple of months. He now won't need kidney dialysis or a transplant.
