Hope that some of you will take an interest in the modules. We sure will, Altaris! Having just looked through the demo preview, I am majorly, MAJORLY impressed! Having the Disciplines as Feats is a brilliant idea. I can see that spending time on the 'base' code will make programming the actual modules far easier and less time-consuming. And it works so well! (I just got absolutely trashed by Zagarna--he's hard!) I'm afraid I can't stop gushing over how good the system looks and is working. Sorry. Well done, and please don't stop working on it. The updated mods are going to be extremely good. I was never quite sure with the original mods whether my character kept the first Discipline in the second mod, but now they are Feats, that is no longer a problem. If there's anything you would like clarified, or any input you would like, please post it on this board--I'm sure we'll all be pleased to help you. Is the idea to recreate the gamebooks after mods 3 & 4? That's going to be a very tricky thing to do, but I have confidence in your abilities to do it, Altaris! For Sommerlund and the Kai!

To Outspaced's post:
Glad to hear you've enjoyed the demo so well. You're absolutely correct that spending a little extra time here in the beginning to ensure some of the basic core system works as well as it can will save time in the long run. I've started reworking LW 1 - Test of the Sun already, and I'm really enjoying the process. Having the Kai Disciplines set up this way actually allows me to properly create the other Kai Lords as well.
As to the module story progression, LW 1, 2, and 3 will stay as they are (for those unfamiliar with the modules, these are actually preludes to Flight from the Dark, with Lone Wolf coming to the Kai Monastery and his early adventures there). LW 4 will be called Eclipse of the Kai, and more or less follow the events of the book by the same name (though I'm planning to take some liberties with parts I didn't much care for). LW 5 and 6 will cover Flight from the Dark and Fires on the Water, respectively. LW 7 and 8 will be Caverns of Kalte and the Chasm of Doom, LW 9 will be Shadows on the Sand (1st half), and LW 10 will be the Book of the Magnakai (SotS 2nd half).
For now, not going to worry too much with the Magnakai series, though I do have some plans for them. That'll be quite a ways down the road at this point though...

Just one little note on NWN and the Lone Wolf modules for them. The new modules will require the Neverwinter Nights game itself, and both the Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark expansions.
There's a Neverwinter Nights Gold Edition out nowadays that has both NWN and Shadows of Undrentide included. NWN Gold is about $35.00 in the US, and the additional Hordes of the Underdark expansion is about $25.00 in the US, so it would be about $60.00 to purchase all the needed components. If you're a fan of 3rd Edition D&D, though, it's a worthy investment, and there's some good modules out there to play. And if you are familiar with programming, modding in the toolset can be an absolute blast.
Just thought I'd share that little piece of information for anyone thinking of checking out the mods...

Okay, that's it. Now I need that Neverwinter Nights game. *starts to hunt it down* The Wytch-King I can relate. Ugh! *resists temptation to run out an get game immediately because he knows it would be the necessary catalyst to failing to complete college assignments* I will have to get this someday, and Thank You to Altaris for coming here and making us aware of your incredibly alluring plans! *must resist* I'll have to play vicariously through others on the board for now! Maybe as a college graduation present to myself. . .

I have actually started building a nwn mod based on lone wolf book 1 two or three times, but each time I abandoned the project because it was just too much work for 1 person. Using NWN to make custom mods is not hard, in fact the game was designed for building custome modules. It just requires a lot of time and planning. There is also a great wealth of custom haks for download on the "nwn vault" (do a google search) that can be added to the game and would lend themselves very well to the lone wolf world.

I would love to see a Lone Wolf MMORPG similar to Everquest.

Looking at all the suggested game engines, I wonder what you guys thought of use of the Jedi Knight II engine. I would think that it would be rather easy to convert the force powers over with a bit of programming to emulate the kai disciplines faithfully. I know that it is a sci-fi themed engine but what do you guys think?

What we need is a mod for Rome: Total War or something like that.
I want to recreate the massive battles between the Darklands and those nations not under Evil's dominion.

After what has turned into entirely too long of a hiatus, I have finally gotten my Lone Wolf NWN project rolling along pretty well. The first module is complete, and in the final stages of a demo/beta version, and the second module is about 65% done. If any of you are interested in checking them out, please feel free to visit the NWN guild forum at: nwn.bioware.com/guilds_registry/viewguild.html?gid=1751The modules may have taken a long time to get out, but I've been very happy with the outcome. Please feel free to let me know what you think of them should you get a chance to take a look at them.

I have long term plans to make a Lone Wolf game...it will be making a new genre of game too.
Basically, I want it to be very close to the books...which are like interactive movies through my imagination, which is exactly how the game will be -- a beautiful 3d action game, where you sometimes control the character to choose which way to walk etc and other times just pause to make decisions about what you want to do. It would be real-time rendered, but fully scripted and seemless from start to finish for each book.
The only difference I would make is to have combat be real time sort of like Soul Calibur, in some kind of an arean (each fight would take place in a different arena that fit seemlessly into the interactive movie)

(whew, summer classes and a summer job are not good for having free time to hang out online)
That kinda sounds like a slower-paced version of Dragon's Lair to me...

The problem is, anything that's quality (ie a serious attempt using serious man hours by a seriously talented team) will _require_ an official license and I bet you he doesn't give those out for free. Since I am unemployed, living on state handouts etc. I can't afford to license the product *but* since what I plan to do is quite a serious effort as any 'quality' approach would be I'm not able to make a go of it because at any point Joe could shut it down and/or sue me for copyright infringement. The problem is basically, that if you want to do it properly you need a license and if you can't afford a license you must accept that all your hard work can be closed down overnight or worse, legally someone else's property to profit from how they see fit. Not ideal really .. It really is a shame there's no way to contact Joe for ordinary people like myself with an idea and something to put forward .. I'm sure, as you say, it would be of some value to have either an official explanation/statement of how Joe considers licensing his ideas or a statement of fair use which is concise enough to allow people to go ahead and develop things within a clerly defined framework. Conrad. A Lone Wolf movie'd be excellent, too. Man I wish I had Dever and Grant's autographs..... HW
