Hello all,
I've written my own made gamebook and was wondering if anyone would like to try it out. I haven't tested it yet, so I'm looking foward to hearing your comments and crits.
Here's the first two paragraphs, just so you get an idea as to what it is all about:
You wake up in a dark room. The first thing you feel is the cold, damp floor against your cheek. You have no memories as to how you got there. No matter how hard you try to recall something, you can’t seem to recall anything. You know your memories are still there, somewhere, stored there, within yourself but it’s as if an invisible wall was preventing you from reaching them.
As you stumble to get to your feet, your nearly collapse, dizzy. Your head is spinning and your vision blurry. As you stand there, in the dark, confused and staggering you suddenly a voice. To your horror and surprise, it is coming from within your head!! You recognise the voice instantly, it’s yours, which makes the experience even more so disturbing. What is happening to you? Have you gone mad, why are you there alone, in the dark, helpless?
“Calm, mortal, calm. Do not be afraid. I mean you no harm. My name Belthamel, I am what you humans call an “angel” although I find the word not quite representative of our true nature. However, I am not there to discuss the limitations of the human mind as serious as they may be.” The voice is similar to yours but has more strength to it and sounds very peaceful and relaxing. You don’t feel so scared anymore and you calm down a bit, willing to hear a bit more about this unexpected guest.
“I am the one preventing you from your thoughts. You might say I am managing your thoughts and memories, only those who might prove helpful to a situation will be accessible. I do not want you to let emotions get in the way, your being here and my becoming one with you is not without a purpose as you might have guessed.”
“Unfortunately, I am afraid we have little time for history just now, time is short and we are already terribly late in our quest. Suffice to say you will need to get to the Sphere of Infinity, deep into this maze and retrieve it. Humans are limited, but sometimes surpass limits which they shouldn’t have. The Sphere is the work of secret guild or sorcerers, the 10 most powerful magus of this little planet and of many more planets and solar systems for that matter.”
You interrupt Belthamel, curious to know what the purpose of this so-called Sphere is.
The voice replies, slightly irritated: “ Uhm.. yes, I was getting to that. The Sphere allows the Otherwolds to become one with reality. This would mean the beholder of the Sphere may allow a rift into this world as we know it and modify reality to the point where beings which shouldn’t exist walk the earth.”
“Alas we are not the only one who were informed of this device. Galahad, a fallen crusader, who used to be an icon, a symbol of Piety, has been possessed by Gennowrath, the Prince of Deamons, the Crowned king of darkness, the Destroyer of Worlds. He is in the maze at the time we are speaking, advancing towards the Sphere. I doubt the maze will hold him back for long, his powers are many and his might unmatched.”
“The time has come, adventurer, onward! I shall free you from my presence once the Sphere has been sent through a rift, where it will never leave again.”
