Fair point, seeing as I generally use a diamond worth thousands of crowns to buy someone's horse, and then still have to offer him a second item (hey, take my Jewelled Mace while you're at it). All in all, it's a pretty good day's work for Altan. And it alleviates my guilt for using Psi-Surge on him. ;D How about that Vordak Gem that's worth hundreds of Crowns that may even cause your death? Give that to Altan and see how he fares. I would say give him the Doomstone, but Loi-Kymar makes you get rid of it, that straight-laced bastard. Speaking of which, didn't some Darklord find all the Doomstones inside a dying man? If so, that would explain why he was dying.

Heh, why not just give him a couple of maps! I always just discarded the maps as soon as I got them. I mean, what's LW going to do, not complete the mission? How pathetic would that be? "Oh, yeah, King Ulnar, I forgot. I lost my map of the Darklands, so I just turned back."

I'm looking at you, Wytch-King! Moi? ... No, I'm more of the "rend the soul from your body" variety. But thanks nonetheless. ;D The Wytch-King, who secretly suspects Grey Star

Oh, and the head of Kezoor the Necromancer ends up being pretty useless to you, too.

Yes, I believe that was Zagarna, which ascended him to the level of Archlord.
My vote would be for the Cess, which I also mentioned in another thread. The black cube and Vordak gem are bad too, but you can avoid the problem with the Vordak gem depending on where you go, and the black cube is a recurring thing that I learned my lesson from the first time I encountered them. After not reading the books for many years, I remembered to avoid the Gem and cubes when I came across them, but I STILL fell for that stupid cess, on the opinion that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. That's all I'll say, so I don't give it away to others, but MAN did I hate that. . . no way to get out of it.

Exactly, because even if you don't have it the gate guard decides that's the day he's going to be nice to strangers. What a jerk.

How ironic that the Kai Lords, who are supposed to be defenders of justice and right, have committed a grevious injustice in failing to speak up for the Receipt, and that I, Agarash, Naar's greatest champion, must now "defend" it...
What in Ishir's name was Dever thinking?! "Hey, it's totally useless, but at least they won't have to discard anything to carry it"? Maybe he was just not thinking clearly, thanks to that Doomstone I slipped under his pillow...er, I mean, a head cold. Yeah, that's it.

Take the right paths, and you can get two Vordak Gems, without risking any problems whatsoever.

The first is on Section 123 and the second is on Section 34.

i remember in the 1st book, i think there was a 'priceless gem' that was worth 'thousands of gold crowns' but theres no place to cash it in While we are on the subject of gems in book 1, there are 20 gems that are quite useless. I had gotten the "priceless" vodrak gem and I was thrilled at that time to find 20 gems. Though at that time that these would be 20x pirceless. Guess not.
As to where it is found..... It's found in the graveyard of the ancients. After the sarcophagus go north, continue walking, walk on (do not attack skulls), attack crypt spawn, win the combat.
