Well, I never got a copy of CoS, so that's not the answer. It is the main line of FF books (no Sorcery! either) and neither of the books in my question is from the "big duo" (Jackson and Livingstone)...
As per the LW question... it is no Shadaki and Vassagonia (both are Vassa nations), but you're getting quite close! one of them is right!

Wow, I never knew you get to see yourself in some of the FF's. As for the LW question, I'm not quite sure what to look for here, but I'm sure if I really sat down and tried I'd find something.

what are the two names (place names, not persons') which show that two apparent unrelated (as per the ethnic charts in MC) nations do in fact share some language affinities? Ahah, we are actually discussing this in TotS: the answer is Vassagonia and Dessi, and here's an example of this with the word "Ikar": Ikaresh (Eagle's nest) and Itikar (Big Eagle) from the Vassagonian language, and Ikar (Eagle) from the Koura-tas-kai legend of Dessi! ;D EDIT: I re-read your question: you are asking for places, not characters. So here they are: Kazan- Oud (Castle Death) in Dessi and Saadi-tas- Ouda (Square of the Dead) in Barrakesh, Vassagonia.

@ Black Cat.
Wow!!! you got the two nations... Those are not really the places I had in mind, but the deduction is liguistically perfect, and more documented. So, contributing to your discussion, if you have not noted it yet, the names I had in mind were: Saadi-tas-Ouda (The Plaza of Death) in Barrakesh, and Kazan-Oud, oldie Castle Death of gamebook fame.
A clue for my original question... the books have a definite "Far Asian" setting, quite away from the standard "sword and sorcery" FF.

A clue for my original question... the books have a definite "Far Asian" setting, quite away from the standard "sword and sorcery" FF. Oooh! I know the books! But I don't know the character! In fact if I'm right about the books you don't have a name in either of them! Don't want to go any further unless I'm gonna win a prize just for naming the books without any more detail.

@ Doomy
well, it's enough with the books. Actually in one of them you do have a name, quite meaningful to the plot... Actually the name has fallen off my head too

If no one knows the answer to andyr's fiendish question, shall I post it and then have Black Cat ask "my" question by proxy?

*sigh* Well, I'll lead by saying thet I thought it was a darn good question, andyr!
The answer is that in FF 42: Black Vein Prophecy, you play the re-awakened twin prince Maior from the Isles of the Dawn, whom you subsequently meet during the course of FF47: The Crimson Tide in your quest for justice against the bandits that killed your parents.
I think that's right, Andyr? If so, We await your question, BC! (Unless anyone wants another non-LW question as well?)

Ya know, I think that we should make two separate threads: one for the LW books, another one for any other series. I'm still thinking for my question right now, but if you agree with the idea of two threads, I'll create that new thread when I'll post my question. outspaced: if you want me to ask one of your questions, PM it to me.

If there are two separate threads, I'd guess the non-LW one would get very little attention on this board! Keep 'em combined for now, I say. And BC--nah, I have no specific LW question planned. Looking forward to hearing yours, though . . .
