I did English Language at AS-Level and I even got a 'C' in it (I'm terrible at exams usually). I learnt a hell of a lot too NS.

I am not looking forward to my turn at classes in ye Olde Aenglish, but I know they’re coming. That’s what happens with language classes. First you learn the modern, proper version. Then you learn the modern vernacular. Then you learn older versions, and then you learn how they used to butcher the older versions. Why is this important? I have no real clue, but I do know that being an expert on the subject draws potentially larger paychecks.

Heh. Touché, Al. Besides which, British English is far more fun - oesophagus, aeon, colour, cheque... English - tripping up poor spellers for 2,000 years!

It is funny that the French (as in from France) look down at Quebecois french as being less proper than parisian French but that parisian French has far more Anglicisms than Quebecois.... Le shopping? Al

Its funny, eh? Taht is why I always prefered to study Quebecois french rather than Parisian, a much better french in my opinion (not to mention it is the one spoken in Canada... I have never understood why other French's are taught, it would be like teaching oxford engilsh in Scotland, totally inappropriate) Al

I think it's just the way of the French to look down on anything not directly coming from France, sort of like it's the way of the English to look down on any other dialect of English besides their own, and it's the way of Americans to try and do everything by force rather than diplomacy.
