Okay, this one's a little easier. Name the gamebook in which you are attacked with a slide trombone.

Usually such lunacy is found in books written by JH Brennan. Am I warm?

It is indeed the product of the great Herb's (and I do sometimes wonder what "herbs" he was consuming when he came up with this stuff) febrile imagination.

Pity I'm not sufficiently familiar with Mr Brennan's work to pin down the actual book. Any takers?

Hum...My guess is that it is in one of the Grail Quest book. Maybe if I name them all I'll stumble on the right answer?

DF: Since no one else is answering your question, I will! According to The Dungeons of Torgar Section 1:

Outspaced, you have it. Though the section I was actually thinking of later on in the book, when you have to choose your salute. While the clue is right there in Section 1, the importance is driven home when someone asks you to salute as a Pathfinder, and you have to actually remember how it was done.
Either way, Outspaced... you're up.

In view of our current projects, how about this one: - What is unusual about White Warlord Section 222 and Black Baron Section 29?
If that sounds vague, trust me: the answer is completely obvious.

They're identical? I do remember that the matched series had lots of similarities.

In a way, NS, they are. But what about the identicality is particularly unusual? ;D

Is it something like the text in the White Warlord book refers to you as the Black Baron (or vice versa)?

Perhaps they are exactly identical and it was a copy error, not taking into account the books' differing perspectives?

GB: No, not at all. The Combat Heroes books are mostly illustrations rather than text, and it is the numbered illustrations I'm rferring to. NS: Nope! What a fiendish question!

This is a total guess. I haven't even seen the books.
Like Ghost Bear said, the illustrations (sections) show the same event but have been put in the wrong books, so you appear to be attacking yourself?
Am I close? Does that even make sense?
And what of MrEldritch's question? Can nobody answer it?

Doomy: Nope! We know the right area for MrE's question, but I don't own many JH Brennan books, unfortunately. They're always so darn expensive second-hand! I'd guess it's a GrailQuest book, but as I don't own all of them, it's tricky for me to answer. Wow! Four smileys in one small post. Who'd'a thunk it?
