Well, knowing what we do, we could just go from finding out Cyrilus is gone after the archery contest to the first Castle Taunor entry. It's not like there's any way we can save him, after all.

In the past I have avoided both the contest and Tuanor. There is plenty of healing elsewhere (I usually have half a dozen Laumspur potions in safekeeping by the end of the Magnakai series) and with the Sommerswerd, there is not much use for a minor magical weapon.
You have to be pretty lucky, either with your initial CS or in the contest (or both), in order to win the bow, and even if you do, (SPOILER) you must spend 20GCs or 2 Special Items to avoid a chance of instant death.
However, thinking again, I now realize that if I hold on to a couple of old Special Items (e.g. maps?) then it might be worth it, especially if I fluked a good CS. However, I would only stand a chance if I took Weaponmastery as one of my starting disciplines, which is otherwise not much use until book 9. I will have to think about this again.

One of the special items that I used was the coach ticket to Port Bax cheapest horse I've ever bought. ;D

One of the special items that I used was the coach ticket to Port Bax cheapest horse I've ever bought. ;D Must've been a tough decision, lots of sentimental value to that ticket! Probably would sell for a ton on ebay: Ticket stub actually used by Lone Wolf on his quest to save the world! Signed!

If you admit the use of dual weapons, the best thing is to go for the Bronin Warhammer. Even the little bonus of +1 can be useful against tough bosses, as Kimah, Tagazin or... the cutest of all ... the Chaosmaster ! If you don't admit the use of dual weapons, the warhammer is pretty useless for people with the Sommerswerd. You can have a great shooting bonus also without the Silver Bow... when you become a Mentora, you gain an extra bonus of +2 besides the normal +3... if you have the Silver Bow, too, your total bonus is +8 and you are a pretty sniper, boys ! What do I do ? I'm happy with the normal +5 bonus and I will use the warhammer as the second weapon...

Relenoir, you're a fool NS. I prefer the term comic relief. And if you'd thought to sell it first on ebay, you would have! ;D

I think I had a positive Combat Ratio against the Chaosmaster even without the Bronin Warhammer. Let's see if I can remember this... 19 Base CS +5 from Lore Circles. +2 Silver Helm. +8 Sommerswerd. +8 Dual Weaponmastery at Scion-Kai +4 Concentrated Alether +2 for the Lore Circle of the Spirit for a total of 48, giving me a +1CS. I could also use Psi-Surge for a totale of 52, giving me a +5 ratio. Or, if you're not using the dual-weapons rule (which we discussed here previously, and which I now use), this will give you a +1 ratio. Course, this does depend on luck in your initial CS rolls. But I digress. I always went for the bow, because I figure that having only recently learned to shoot a bow (I always pick Weaponmastery with Bow), Lone Wolf would be eager to test his skills. Hmmm, you can buy the horse without giving up the bow or nicking it? I'll have to do that in future. Money is hardly ever a problem for me in the LW series, so why not? Thanks for the tip, gloccusv. -GB

Can someone give me a link to the *most relevant* thread about dual-wielding? I'd like to read what was finally agreed, not seventy-six pages of "well, maybe..." NS.
