Hi all,
There's a point that I'd like to clarify (I remember that it had been raised some times ago on the mailing list but can't remember what was the conclusion) : In the Grand Master series book "The travel of the Moonstone", I believe it's said somewhere that Grey Star has lived thousands of years before Lone Wolf. Could anyone who owns the book try to check it and find the exact quote ? Or does anybody have an exact Magnamund's timeline ? Lone Wolf's story takes place around 5030-5080 if I'm not wrong. What about Grey Star ?
Thanks in advance.

A thousand years? Hey, I'm not that old! ... Am I? *ponders own age* No, Grey Star's story takes place at the same time as Lone Wolf's adventures. Alas, I don't have a timeline (that I trust) or an exemplar of The Voyage of the Moonstone, but I do have two books that proved rather enlightening concerning that question. They are Grey Star the Wizard and, astonishingly enough, Fire on the Water. Have a look at section 215 of the Grey Star book and section 40 of the Lone Wolf book ... Madin may be good, but not that good! And somehow I doubt that Madin coincidentally had an ancestor thousands of years ago who was exactly as renowned for his herbal lore and healer's craft ... Nevertheless, if anyone could give us a Voyage of the Moonstone quote concerning Grey Star and/or a trustworthy timeline, I'd be interested as well! The Wytch-King edit: And again, someone beat me to it. Argh. I feel old age creeping into my bones ... Uh, my research took that long!

French translation made Grey Star Astre d'Or (literally Golden Star).
I guess Etoile grise sounded kinda drab anyhow.

Ok, this is actually found in entry 259 of LW 22, The Buccaneers of Shadaki. The year in question is MS 5083.
Spoilers below...highlight to read
On hearing of your encounters at sea, he tells you that the buccaneers of Shadaki are actually renegades from the remnants of a great fleet that was created by the Wytch-King Shasarak. Following the defeat of their master, these renegades were banished to the wastes of the Sadi Desert by Grey Star- the Wizard Regent of the Free Peoples. However, the buccaneers have recently returned to prey on the rich sea lanes, and their piracy has grown unchecked ever since Grey Star disappeared three months ago from his palace in the city of Shadaki.[glow=red,2,300]TEXT[/glow]

About the travel of the Moonstone, I don't have the book myself ; I just remember of a thread about this on the mailing-list. AFAIR, there's a hint somewhere in the beginning of the book that says something like "millenias ago, the moonstone was brought back from the Daziarn by a wizard." No mention of Grey Star though, and this does not fit with "The story so far" told at the beginning of GSTW. But I may be wrong or have dreamt all that.
Anyway, thanks Wytch-King ! This is very enlightening and no doubt remains.
There's something else (this was another old thread on the ML) : I believe that somewhere in the books (probably in on of the New Order series) or maybe in the Legends series, there is a mention of a legend saying that the forces of darkness would be defeated by a powerful warrior and a powerful wizard. (and the question was of course : Who his the wizard, Banedon or Grey Star ? But that's not the point). It makes more sense if LW and GS live at the same time.
Does anybody know more about this legend ? Once again, it could exist only in my dreams.

From Wild Horse :
No doubts anymore. Thank you very much. Is there any other mention of Grey Star in the New Order Series ?
Edit : Madin Rendalim is a rather lucky man ; the only one who can say befor dying "I've met the two greatest heroes of this universe." ;D

"millenias ago, the moonstone was brought back from the Daziarn by a wizard." Hmm, that could have been a vague reference to the creation of the Moonstone. That would have been about 5 millenia ago, and maybe it was "wizard s" instead of "wizard"? Another possibility: Maybe the original quote did not say "back from, but "back to"? No one ever said that it took several Shianti to return the Moonstone to the Daziarn, as Ishir had asked of them. I would ask them, but we're not exactly on speaking terms. [...] a legend saying that the forces of darkness would be defeated by a powerful warrior and a powerful wizard. [...] Does anybody know more about this legend ? Once again, it could exist only in my dreams. Well, that one I haven't heard of before, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were taken from the Legends of Lone Wolf. In that case, though, I would suspect Banedon. Don't know if Grey Star was ever even mentioned in the novels. Ok, this is actually found in entry 259 of LW 22, The Buccaneers of Shadaki. The year in question is MS 5083. Now that spoiler was interesting to read, considering that these guys can be chosen as player characters in the new game by Mongoose ... which is set in about MS 5000. Plying the seas of time, are we? Well, that's probably poetic licence. And I am glad to have them in the game. French translation made Grey Star Astre d'Or (literally Golden Star). Fascinating! German translation named him Silberstern, which translates back into "Silver Star". Any other translations for our good ol' Grey Star of Many Colours out there? Edit : Madin Rendalim is a rather lucky man ; the only one who can say befor dying "I've met the two greatest heroes of this universe." ;D Probably they were even luckier to have met him ... Eh, sorry I'm so late to this thread Just for the record, Lone Wolf and Grey Star do live at the same time. Grey Star is, according to Dever in one of the Newsletters, one year older than Lone Wolf, though they set out on their respective quests at roughly the same time: Spring MS5050. Dever also said that he had originally intended to bring Grey Star into the New Order series, but that things didn't develop that way. Make of that what you will! I'm unsure as to the year in whic Grey Star beat Shasarak (sorry, The Wytch-King ) since time in the Daziarn travels at different speeds--both faster and slower--than on Magnamund. According to LW#12, more than eight years passed on Magnamund during Lone Wolf's sojourn in the Daziarn in LW#11. But Grey Star obviously begins his rule long before the time Lone Wolf ascends to Grand Masterdom (MS5067ish).

Hmm. IIRC, during Grey Star's sojourn in the Daziarn, 12 years passed on Magnamund. I'm sure that the info is given in the last section of "Beyond the nightmare gate." This would give us, let's say, a good 5062, eight years before the destruction of Helgedad (5070), the eight years during which Lone wolf is in the Daziarn himself. If this is correct, it means that Grey Star comes back to Magnamund at the time Lone Wolf get in the Daziarn. And so, when Lone Wolf acces to grand masterdom, Grey Star RoO|_z for about eight years.
Well, the details don't really matter, the two stories are very parallel. That's what I had to be sure of.

Assuming books 1, 2, and 3 follow right on each other's heels, that would place the beginning of his rule around MS5057.
