I was just reading the thread about the Jewelled Maces, and I was wondering about all the Special and Backpack items you can pick up in the Lone Wolf series (1-20), but can't be used in the New Order series.
So, what if the special weaponry/armour/items that you pick up are stored in the Monastery's armoury after Lone Wolf completes his quest. What if these items were made available to New Order Grand Masters on their quests? Obviously a measure of honesty would be needed - you can only reuse items that you finish adventures with in your LW campaign, and you can't use items that you didn't actually pick up when you play through the LW books. Also you can't take the Sommerswerd.
Could this work? Or would it unbalance the gamebooks too much? Since I've not played through all of the LW series yet, I've no idea as to the viability of this idea. What do other folks think?

My guess is that it would unbalance them, considering that Joe probably didn't figure them into the equation when writing the books. I suppose it would be nice to be "handed down" a set of Kagonite Chainmail (or perhaps that Bronin Vest Lone Wolf was no longer allowed to wear after book 12), a Silver Helm, Silver Bow of Duadon, maybe that defunct shield, etc., but I'm pretty sure that LW would still have need for them, i.e. books 24 & 25. I think Joe probably bases the toughness of the books around whatever items are available in the New Order series, but since I haven't read them yet, I can't say for sure.

[...] I think Joe probably bases the toughness of the books around whatever items are available in the New Order series [...] Yes, he would even have to do that, though I really like Ghost Bear's thought. Background-wise, it seems very believable! Especially the unique Special Items would pose a problem, e.g. the Bronin Vest; maybe one could make an exception for those generic Helmets, Chainmail Waistcoats, Shields ( ) or what have you, but even those only if it would have been possible to get them in the New Order books at some point - so that the Monastery's armoury would just be an alternative source for them. But maybe even that might unbalance the books ... Can only theorize about that, as I don't own any of these books. I suppose it would be nice to be "handed down" a set of Kagonite Chainmail [...], a Silver Helm, Silver Bow of Duadon [...] Hey! No one gets to touch these as long as I'm able to drop a Sommerswerd! I'm warning you ... The Wytch-King

From what I remember of the New Order series, Lone Wolf is still active and well, and he only calls on you to do his dirty work when he's busy doing something of Great Significance himself - so he'd probably still be using all the juicy stuff!

True enough, Storm Dancer, but there's still a lot of stuff that you're not allowed to use in the Grand Master books - stuff like the Bronin Vest, for example, that probably still is languishing in the Monastery ...
