Okay, a quick update on the latest work: Seventh Sense "About" menu is now complete - along with a sweet scrolling list of Credits. (I'll be contacting certain individuals to ask them how they'd like their names to appear in the credits). One can also press a button to check for an updated version of Seventh Sense - you can also tell the program to automatically check each time you start the program, so that you'll always be notified if there is a newer version available. (Of course, an internet connection is mandatory!) Various other options menus are finished... You can select the color of the bars used in the RNT and CRT, for instance, and select groups of Action chart header buttons... Plus all of the "decorative" art in the action chart is finished.
I must say, I am impressed with the polish of this thing everytime I start it up to test things out. I should probably post a few screens for you guys...

Dave the first version was quite a programming achievement considering it was done in your spare time and the skills were self taught. These second version features sound way beyond the call of duty And yes some screens would be a treat.

Okay, so I put in some serious time & testing yesterday on this thing, and here's the scoop:
As I suspected, with the new code, there is nothing special that needs to be done to run in Vista - it works perfectly. I'll give it a test on a fresh install of XP, too, but if it's not going to hiccup on Vista, I'd imagine the rest of the Windows OSs are good to go.
I finished the following things in relation to campagin saving/loading/restarting: -One can now choose to restart : 1) the current book, using their saved campaign data for the beginning of that book. 2) the current book, starting over from scratch (tossing any saved info from previous books) 3) the current series - so , go back to book 1 if in Kai, book 6 in Magnakai, etc. (tossing any saved data) 4) the whole thing, back to book 1, tossing any saved data.
You are able to save and load your progress at will - provided you have chosen that gameplay option, of course.
You can now progress from book to book, with the accompanying increase in skills/stats, depending on gameplay options.
All of the menus are finished and fully functional, and so is the entire Action Chart, down to the details.
Replacement art is finished for book 2 (I think I mentioned that already...)
Everything is working like a charm.
I have very little left to code before converting book 3.
I'm seriously pumped about getting this thing out soon...

This all sounds VERY good indeed, Dave. We're clearly all looking forward to it with eager anticipation. Are you planning on getting Books 4 and 5 ready before release, thereby giving the fans the opportunity to really put Seventh Sense through its paces?

I finished up all of the little programming left-overs last night, and started in on book 3. I'll definitely put at least book 4 in before the public release, but it would be pretty sweet to have the whole Kai series done, wouldn't it? I'll know better what to do when I finish book 4.
Let's see how long it takes me to finish book 3! I'm starting my timer...

"Here's hoping for Book 4..." Crosses fingers, "I dunno how long this takes per book."

it used to be a matter of several weeks - I'm hoping now for a matter of several days. If only real life wouldn't keep pushing itself to the foreground of my attention and time...

Time! - Finished inputting Book 3 tonight - have proceeded to test it out... I was really ripping through the entry for the last 90 sections or so, averaging just about 1 minute per section. I've had several days of not being able to work on it, so all in all, I entered the whole book in about 3 days - This new editor is MUCH faster than my old one!
Still need to test the rest of the book (only about 10% done testing), but it's late and I need my sleep. Good night!

Nice one Dave, sounds great. As for your need for sleep...it's for the weak you know. Anyway, I'm off to nap.

I'm curious...When you get deliverance, how do you activate it? And how are you going to figure out the "every 100 days" or "every 20 days" thing?

For deliverance, some action chart button will do the trick. As for how often, that sort of depends on the adventure. every 100 days will be essentially once per adventure, every 20 days could happen multiple times, so I'll come up with a way to figure that out once we get to the books where it applies.

Finished testing out book 3 last night - working perfectly. I had incorporated some code to help me out with testing, to make it faster and more thorough - it sure helps! I did the whole book in just around 2 hours.
I'm going to get started putting book 4 in today. Momentous occasion, really - breaking new ground. Everything up to this point has been a re-hash of previous work, but not any more!
I also incorporated a suggestion by mckinstry to give the player a little pop-up menu when they die in combat, or their EP gets to zero, so that your death has a sense of finality. It currently reads thus : "You have died!" (That's the title in large font at the top) "Your Endurance has fallen to zero..." "Your mission and your life end here."
You are then given the option of restarting/loading/quitting/etc. I'm happy to take suggestions on a better "eulogy" for Lone Wolf. It doesn't need to be flowery, and must be genereic enough to cover death from any source (combat/starvation/text damage)
Of course, if you think what I already have is adequate, we can just stick with that... Still, everyone is welcome to shoot some ideas out there if you are inspired to do so.
