???Hi! I was excited to find this site. I am a proofreading and copyeditor. I just finished proofreading over 300 pages of e-books at Distributed Proofreading. Your web site is a little similar to DPs. I have two questions: first since your site is different, I am lost to how to find an OCR and to proofread or copyedit pages that have work done on them. Secondly, I was wondering if I did an awesome job at proofreading or copyediing--over a really long period of time--if I could receive a reference to add to my resume? I have searched Google high and low for such a situation, but to no avail.
Sincerely, David W Olsen

Hi David By now you should have received a response to your E-mail which answers many of your questions. The OCR and "Proofreading" stages are complete--that is to say, the raw scanned text has been proofread to bring it into line with the original published text, typos and all. We are at the editing stage now for all books, but editing is really proofreading by another name (see here for details). Basically, we need people to look through the books for typos, bad grammar, inconsistency (usually as per the Project Aon Manual of Style), unclear or broken rules that require clarification, and other miscellaneous issues. These reports to the list get discussed and it is decided to either implement or reject them. At this point, a designated geek person with access to the XML and experience of editing it will make the changes and produce another test copy. This is done several times until no more issues are reported and we publish the book. Inevitably, we will miss something and there are usually reports of a few issues after the book is released, but we are trying to keep these to a minimum! We are preparing to commence work on Book 20 shortly, so those on the mailing list will be notified when a pre-release version is available for testing purposes. Bear in mind this will not be the finished article, and most of the artwork will be missing. As for the reference--you'll have to ask Jon Blake about that on the mailing list. I honestly have no idea. Thanks again for the offer of help!
