Hi good folks of the forum! Currently, I'm making quick progress toward the next release of Seventh Sense. All of the coding is in fact done, and only the actually entry of the books remains. So, as I have no decent webpage making skills, I'm asking for some help in that area. I could probably come up with something, but it would directly impact how long until the release comes out.
I'd like to be able to introduce the new version along with a small, functional website, where people can see some screenshots, get info about the program, find download links, etc. Also, it must have the "Halls of Fame", where people can get their name put if they complete the various series according to a certain set of rules. (By-the-book / Hardcore).
I don't need anything fancy, just something workable. Some decent template that I can just easily edit to add screenshots, info about the latest updates, etc...
Does anyone think they could help me out in this respect?

I'd help if I could, but I can't. Sorry.

How about using a blog engine like Blogger or Wordpress? They are very easy to set up and have pretty enough skins. By the way, great work on the first Seventh Sense, Dave. I've been following your project for a month or so now but only registered today. Really looking forward to your next release!

I've done websites, but they tend to be rather bland, and I'm horrible with images.

Hi, Dave, I took the liberty of laying the foundations for a site on Wordpress. Please take a look and see if you like it at all. 1. If you like it enough to want to keep it, please create a Wordpress user account and I will get admin to transfer the site to you. After that, you can modify it all you want. 2. If you don't like it, let me know please, and I will kill it. No hard feelings. I will PM you my email address in a sec.

eastpaw, thanks for the mock-up. It's not quite what I'm looking for, but it's worlds better than what I've got now! I think it would be a good solution as a fallback, if no one steps up with a more traditional website solution. How's that for a definite "maybe"? That said, any other ideas out there folks? It doesn't need to be fancy!

Is there any reason to not just have a page built on the Project Aon website? Among other advantages, you'd be able to include the books with the software without breaching the PA licence. You'd also be able to use the PA templates without having to start from scratch (not that I really know what I'm talking about here).

Dave, I'll hold on to the site for now then.
Doomy's idea is a good one. I'm surprised that you haven't got your own page on PA yet, actually.

Eastpaw - you may need to remove the download link from your wordpress site that includes gamebook files, I think it might be a violation of the PA License. Sorry for pointing this out, I'm not trying to be a pedantic pain-in-the-ass.

The links are fine - the content is held on the AON site. It would be worth adding a statement above or below the links along the lines of "Content kindly provided and hosted by Project Aon - www.projectaon.org - and may not be distributed further without their direct permission."

To respond to the other observation - yes, AON are very happy to host the pages (and do encourage authors to make use of the hosting.) A staff account is required to host book content, and the account comes with access to your own web pages. I believe Lone Wolf DS is making use of this: www.projectaon.org/staff/frederic

Doomy, thanks for that. I hadn't considered that at all, to be honest!
Asderaine, thank you for the clarification. Have amended the page as suggested. Have also cleaned it up a little more and put in a link to PA in the blogroll.
Also, glad to hear PA is happy to host the Seventh Sense page. I'm no good at web design (I only picked the blog skin from a list and did not create it), so would someone else like to help with this?

What, exactly, needs to be done and how much of that can be done by non-coders?

There should be no coding required, in the traditional sense - if I had any time at all, I would offer to pick it up, but I'm swamped unfortunately Most of this can be done using your preferred website development tool (e.g. Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Netobjects) by simply picking/creating a stylesheet and setting up the necessary pages, as detailed by Dave at the top. The hall of fame should be possible by including a control - there are usually controls of this nature available in most web development tools - but there may be a small amount of "development" (aka cut & paste from google) to do that part. I know - I'm making a complex job sound simple - but I do like to encourage people to have a go If you would like to make a start, and have any questions, please feel free to post them

I have none of the software suggested, nor do I know how to use any of it. Guess I'm out then.
