Note to all : Bug fix 1.6.3 is up. This is a good one - fixes all of the random crashes on startup, or finishing a book. Adds a sweet unlockable hint system for the awards... blah blah. go get it! www.projectaon.org/staff/david/download.php

This release, 1.6.3, compiles just fine on Ubuntu 10.04. But the application segfaults while loading.
libphysfs dies when it tries to load any of the 32 byte .7z files (place holders?) in books folders. e.g. ../data/books/book7/7data.7z
If you delete all 32 byte files from book folders (book7 - book20) application loads without error.

smi, you rock. I'll update the source package to not include the empty .7z packages.
EDIT: I actually modified the code to simply ignore looking for books beyond the ones it can actually play. That'll fix the problem.

Okay, only 8 hours later and 1.6.4 is now posted. A couple of files were not updated in the updater... causing serious problems in book 2. A couple of other minor fixes were made as well. Let's hope this one works for everyone!

Whew! Another release, that makes 3 within 24 hours. I just wish I hadn't introduced so many darn bugs in 1.6.x... Well they are getting sorted out, and now I think we've licked the worst of them. There were bound to be some "growing pains" as we hit the Magnakai series. But now that things are looking pretty good, book 7-12 should be FAR less dramatic in terms of bug-fixes.
Anyhow, please go get the 1.6.5 updater and enjoy the latest and greatest!

I've been psyched to play this since I saw the thread on metafilter last week. I noticed you put the 1.5 dmg up for mac users while 1.6 is in the works--unfortunately, that 1.5dmg link is coming up 404. Thanks for all this work!

Dave--thanks. I was able to download the dmg, but every time I try to open it, it crashes immediately (with the message "lonewolf crashed unexpectedly"). I can wait it out for the 1.6 update.

I really love Seventh Sense, especially the new achievements system. You seem to be putting a lot of work in this - thanks a lot!
Do you plan on adding support for books 7-12 soon?

Yes, though "soon" is a relative term... speaking of terms, the term is about to start here at school, which will unfortunately make the word "soon" take on a more biblical connotation. As in: "the time of Lord is soon at hand..." And speaking of relatives, my sister-in-law is visiting soon, with her 4 month old baby that I've never seen. Her visit will take place well before book 7 is released.
I'd better stop now.

Oops, I nerfed shields in 1.6.6 with the whole auto-equip thing. They were officially messed up. 1.6.7 addresses just that issue, and makes things happen the way they should. That said, school starts next week, so unless any major bugs crop up - this may be the last update for while! (1.6.7 is uploading, and will be avaliable shortly.) EDIT : It's uploaded. Get it on the Website (link is in my signature).

Dave, one thing I've noticed during a recent playthrough is that on the 'eat a meal' menu, it says 'eat a special rations'. Perhaps this would be hard to code, but perhaps 'eat a special ration' or 'eat special rations' might be better. I suppose you could simply rename all special rations 'special ration'.
Also, when selecting an item to discard for space reasons, perhaps specifying which take up more or less than one slot could be useful? I just dropped my Badge of Rank to pick up the dagger of Vashna, only to find that I had to drop another. Is the Badge meant to be extra, anyway?

I suppose you could simply rename all special rations 'special ration'. This is by far the easiest solution, and I'll do it for the next release. ]Also, when selecting an item to discard for space reasons, perhaps specifying which take up more or less than one slot could be useful? I just dropped my Badge of Rank to pick up the dagger of Vashna, only to find that I had to drop another. Is the Badge meant to be extra, anyway? Good point! There are some Special Items which do not take up any space at all (as per the text in book! well, only in book 8 and beyond, since that's when Dever incorporated the 12 SI limit.), and I made the Badge out to be one of those implicitly. I like your suggestion of showing how whether or not something takes up space on your special item list. I'll have to think about how to best accomplish this without it looking ugly.
