Magnmund Commander version 0.2 is here! It can be played at the exact same address ( projectaon.org/staff/antoine/mc/ , it will update automatically). There are lots of new features, including:
- The second book, Fire on the Water (including fully playable versions of the Portholes and Cartwheel games).
- A new game font (thanks to Dave for the suggestion).
- Online accounts (create new account, login).
- Working in-game menus (load game, save game).
- A game points system.
- Various minor fixes in the first book (thanks to outspaced and skarnivorous for reporting them).
You will now need an account to play the game. Is is used to support various features, most notably saving and loading your online games. You only need to provide a username, a password and a display name (the name that will be shown in your profile).
A note concerning the save game feature: MC will only allow you to save your game if you are not dead and if you have not done any action in the section you're in (i.e. you haven't pressed any buttons). If you see that the save game button is disabled in the game menu, you will have to continue playing until you turn to the next section.
In the game menu, the "Options" button is always disabled. Starting in the next version, various rules options and cheats will be accessible here. It's up to you to tell me what you would like to see there! I already have some in mind, like the extended combat results table.
As for the game points, certain events in the game give points according to the following table. They are not used or displayed as of now, but they will soon (see website below).
So go ahead, try the game, and don't hesitate to report back any comments/suggestions/bugs that you find. If ever a bug breaks your saved game, just tell me your username and what needs to be restored in your game and I'll change it.
I already started working on version 0.3, which will add the third book of the series and some rules options, as well as a "real" Magnamund Commander website were you'll be able to access the game, a FAQ, see the players profiles, games and rankings, etc.
Enjoy!
