I loved the entire Lone Wolf series until I got to this book. While other books had me making quick decisions and difficult choices while my endurance decreases steadily, this book seemed long drawn out and boring.
I mean, seriously, it seemed like the only interaction on my part was being asked every few pages of whether or not I had Grand Pathsmanship. The other thing that bothered me is that when I was trapped in the "tomb" with 15 endurance points left I was able to recover all of it by the time I encountered another enemy!
I'm not sure if it's the disciplines I chose or what not, but I hardly lost any endurance the entire story or fought any enemy.
I know a lot of people also enjoyed the story Shadow on the Sand, but to me it seemed like a boring filler. At first, that is. I think the reason I found it so boring was that I always just surrendered right at the very beginning to the Vashkan.
So, to wrap everything up, is there a way to make this adventure fun? Is there something I'm missing, some trick to fully enjoy this story? Or was this story really just way too easy and uneventful?

Just played it and while it's not my favorite I don't think it's all that bad. However, I was irritated about the "tomb" part: Reduce your current ENDURANCE points score to 15. Also, erase any Meals... potions of Laumspur and/or Alether. So I lost 2 meal (no big deal), 2 Laumspurs (ouch), and 1 Alether (again ouch). Now, I can accept losing those items in order to crawl out of the "tomb". But what annoys me is that whether LW has 10 meals/potions or zero meals/potions the EP is dropped to 15 regardless. Maybe JD was sending a message against hoarding items.

This was one of my favorite books of the series. The snow covered realm of Nyras is great, Prarg is a good character, and I thought that Magnaarn was a very credible bad guy.
There are some great bits in the book, rescuing the prisoners, sailing down river and meeting Baron Maquin. And of course, rescuing Prarg from the Drakkarim. The best set piece in any Lone Wolf book. A really enjoyable book throughout, in my opinion.

Hehe, I was an alchemist's cupboard when I fell into that tomb. I believe one of my jars held 4 doses of Laumspur and another one 3 doses of Alether. My entire inventory was full of potion pieces.
Prarg was a good character. I must say though, that in the entire series so far my favorite character has to be the Helghast posing as a merchant. It really caught me offguard when he started introducing himself and talking about his family and his life only to have my neck in his deathly gaunt vice minutes later.

But can't you leave them in safekeeping (using player knowledge, like leaving the Sommerswerd behind for Vols 9-11) the next time you play the books ? All those jars from Vol 13 would indeed come in handy in Vol 17.

I actually purposely left behind the sommerswerd when I first played book 9. I had just played book 4, and I was afraid of losing it like Captain D'val lost his. =/

The Oiseau (who never played the GM series and may be missing something) Aaaaaargh! What a sacrilege! You ARE missing something indeed... Book 18 is probably one of the favorite book among fans. Go to your local library and get these books, don't wait!

Especially since books 1-20 are still being published in French. Even more, books 21-28 are still published too. But it seems that the Grey Star series is no longer available in French, I can't find them in my local libraries...
