EDIT: THIS THREAD IS NOW OBSOLETE - the latest and greatest of version of Seventh Sense is now available in native MacOS package form. See the download page to get it!ATTENTION MAC USERS! Because you still only have the 1.5.4 version of the program, the following issue still applies to you! (Won't apply once the Magnakai version is released.) You will find that after installing the program, downloading the zip for book 1, and then trying to play book 1 crashes the program. This is easily fixed if you follow the instructions below. ------------------------------------- Original Post appears below. ------------------------------------- Attention folks! If you downloaded the .zip file for book 1 BEFORE March 2010, you will not run into any problems. You can ignore this thread. If you have downloaded the .zip file for book 1 AFTER (or during) March 2010, which was when PA re-released book 1 with various fixes to text, etc. then READ ON... You will almost certainly get a crash trying to play book 1 (I already have a report of someone not able to play book 1 only a couple of hours after I learned about the updated re-release of book 1 ) The temporary solution is this: 1) download the following .zip file: 01fftd.zip (Old version of the zip) 2) Navigate to your User folder, and find the "book1" folder (under "Seventh Sense->data->books->book1" ) (The entire path for Mac OS should be: [Hard drive]->Users->[UserName]->Documents->Seventh Sense->data->books->book1) 3) Place the downloaded .zip file in the "book1" folder, replacing the current 01fftd.zip (if it exists) 4) Seventh Sense should now work correctly. Don't worry, I'm planning on updating not only the current book definitions files, so you can eventually use the new re-released book, but I'll be adding some version checks, so that Seventh Sense will be able to intelligently handle updated books without crashing in the future. Such an update will come along with the Magnakai release of Seventh Sense, whenever that actually happens!

I can't find my user file or the data file. Where do I find it? Thanks!

If you are on windows (and probably linux/mac, but I don't know for certain, since I don't use them) the User folder is generally your name. You could always just do a simple search for "Seventh Sense", and open any folders with that name (there won't be many). You'll be able to find it pretty quick that way.

Hello...I am using SS v1.5.4 with Vista. I have only just (in the past couple of days) d/led and tried to play it.
When I d/led the version of the book available from the direct d/l link on SS, when trying to open it it crashed, as you said above. However, I tried to replace the book 1 file with the 'Old Book' file you have above and mentioned would be a possible fix.
This brought up the book interface screen alright...but with a load of missing files. No license agreement thingy, no nothing...the interface just said 'MISSING FILE'.
I opened the file 'Old Book 1.zip' using WinRAR and it would seem there ARE numerous files missing from the archive, as well as WinRAR saying there is an 'unexpected end of archive'. This would suggest the ZIP file is incomplete, am I right?
I think the problem is that the ZIP file you have given above doesn't contain all the files you need to play Book 1, but I may be wrong.
Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

Sounds like you got a corrupted download. Try it again. The file should be named 01fftd.zip There's nothing wrong with the original. If you re-download it and it still doesn't work, let me know, and I'll try to figure out what's going wrong.
Edit: Yeah, I just downloaded it myself - there is nothing wrong with the file.

Hi Dave, thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately when I tried to re-d/l the file the same thing happened. Corrupt download with many of the files missing. Apparently the file is supposed to be 2.6MB, right? The copy that turns up in my downloads folder is only 1.01 MB, so something's obviously going wrong somewhere.
Not sure what to do now...
Thanks for your help.
Edit: Incidentally, Book 1 is the only one with which I have this problem. All the others work fine!
Edit 2: BINGO! I was using Chrome to d/l the file, which may have been responsible for the corruption. I tried to use a different browser to d/l and it worked perfectly!
Thanks a lot - I look forward to going through the Kai series!

Glad you got it figured out. Chrome sounds a bit unreliable as a browser... or at least as a file downloader!

Edit 2: BINGO! I was using Chrome to d/l the file, which may have been responsible for the corruption. I tried to use a different browser to d/l and it worked perfectly! That's surprising, I've found Chrome more reliable than other browsers when it comes to downloading.

De-stickying and locking. Problem should no longer apply to 1.6.0 and later books.

Re-stickied and unlocked - Realized that this issue still affects Mac users, since they only have 1.5.4 still... Once the 1.6.x is released for Mac, this thread will go the way of the dodo...

Does anyone know if LoneWolf 1.5.4 is Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) only? I tried to get it to run on my Leopard (10.5.8) MacBook last weekend, and it would never boot up. I tried to add in the old copy of Book 1 per instructions, but of course without being able to run the app there was no folder structure in my User folder like that described in this thread. I made the folders as described, then put the 01fftd.zip folder in the book1 folder, but LoneWolf still wouldn't boot up. On a hunch, I Showed Package Contents on the LoneWolf app, and found the correct folder structure inside it, i.e., LoneWolf.app->Contents->Resources->data->books->book1 In that book1 folder, there's two files, 1data.7z and rnt.dat. I added 01fftd.zip to the book1 folder, then tried running the app. Still no dice. I've tried re-downloading the 1.5.4 .dmg, and I also tried doing this on a fresh User Account, but I still couldn't get the app to run. I've emailed David about this, but if someone's got an answer we can let him keep working on his dissertation.

Evan, I wish I had a good answer for you, but I think it just isn't compatible.
It may be as simple as recompiling on Mac OSX 10.5.8. Unfortunately, I don't have a Mac or Mac OS, so I can't compile it. I'm entirely at the mercy of Sam Lantinga, who is even busier than I am! He'll get around to compiling the new version one of these days. When he does - I'll be sure to ask about the 10.5.8 issue.
If you have any experience compiling source code, you could give it a try.

Actually, I've got a 10.6 install disc that's been lying around untouched for like a year. So, you know, now I've found a Very Important reason to upgrade.

Right, that fixed it - as soon as I upgraded to OS X 10.6, Lone Wolf ran perfectly. Updated to 10.6.4, the most current version, and it still works, so I think it's reasonably safe to say that Seventh Sense runs in Snow Leopard but not in previous OSes.
One thing that isn't correct in the instructions for the Macintosh fix - the Seventh Sense folder is created in a user's Documents folder, not the User folder itself. So that older copy of book 1 goes in:
[Hard drive]->Users->[UserName]->Documents->Seventh Sense->data->books->book1
I'm really, really impressed at the thought that went into the interface for this app. It really is an impressive labor of love. Thanks much!

Thanks, Evan - I've updated the 1st post to reflect your path structure.
I'm glad you like it. The Magnakai is version is even more "awesome", if I do say so myself! As soon as I hear back from Sam, I'll post it up for the Mac-only crowd...
