Only finished Grey Star Books 1,2,3?

Have you finished only the first 3 Grey Star books, actually like them, haven't died, and can't wait for the 4th one? Well, I have, and I've already shipped out for it (I have the third book hardcopy too) but it probably won't come in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if there's any specific items or anything that helps you out in the 4th one, but here's my stats so far at the end of book 3...

I was just wondering what everyone else's Grey Star looked like, or if I'm missing a critical item to book 4.

You're missing nothing (and how come you've got EP -2, doesn't that mean you're dead?). Book 4 is pretty much stand-alone. Thanks to the Moonstone, you start with a predetermined EP=30 and WP=50, every magic power except one in both categories (lesser and higher), and I don't recall a single object from previous books being essential or even useful (except meals and potions).

I read the French translations back then (Astre d'Or) and Book 4 was the first one I bought. So I had absolutely nothing from previous books, and still managed quite well.

Been a while, but that sounds about right. The only advantage that I recall was being able to add your WP and END from the end of the previous books to your scores in Book 4.

Book 1 was awfully difficult with that Kleasa (sp?). Was it's stats 'errata'd' in the online books, OOC?

Yeah, that thing is pretty hard. I used a potion of Alether in that fight, and pumped 15 willpower points into it! =) And at the end of book 3, my Jashkan killed me in the room with the Moonstone, and in that battle you only "win" by dying. If you succeed in killing the Jashkan, you only kill yourself.

Other than that, I've never actually played the Grey Star series, but then I never had the opportunity.

One thing was fixed about the Kleasa combat from "Grey Star the Wizard":

In the published printed book, the section where you can cast a spell of Sorcery round yourself for protection was unreachable - this is now fixed, so you don't have to loose so many EPs and WPs per round.

The thing about Grey Star combats is you can panic and use LOADS of willpower points in one round to destroy your enemy, even if you've got an alarmingly negative combat ratio -
my advice would be to try and blitz the Kleasaa with x10 WP or sthg. Although you can't "kill" it, you can at least move on past the combat section and have a chance of completing the book.

The klessais easy. Just use the seed that lets you avoid paying willpower to do a x999999999 attack on it

I thought you couldn't use it in combat, or that it limited the multiplier or something. There's no such thing as unlimited Willpower expenditure because of a tiny little seed.

That's good to know. I'll check the errata online.

I thought that - based on additional pages, where the Kleasa appears to be drawing strength from Grey Star - that you had to resolve ALL rounds on the combat table, regardless of how much damage the Kleasa took?

Uh, it seems pretty silly to me to continue the combat when one of the combatants reaches zero EP. It's not exactly easy to survive six (or however many) rounds with that thing, anyway.

Say what you want about War of the Wizards, but the demon horde chase event is one of my favorites in the entire LW/GS series. I think it's worth reading for that alone.

Oh, that reminds me. Fun fact! My copy of WotW isn't mine. I borrowed LW1-12 and all the GS books from a friend in 7th grade, and for some reason which I can't recall, I never gave back WotW. On page 283, someone wrote "Tommy is a [thingy]sucker". I'm dead serious. Hopefully he posts here so I can get his address and mail it back to him.

Yes, I think you'll even find it ... memorable ... ;D (Of course, I'm biased.) But you won't have much leisure to "behold" it. I won't grant that to you, sorry.

I don't care how stupid it seems, or if some fan site decides otherwise, its the only way to beat the klessa legit, and I don' think its THAT odd a concept. I imagine Grey star quickly popping it into his mouth, going into a deep trance and charging up dbz style to do a big attack.
And if you coudn't use it in combat, why would it say you could use it to avoid paying willpower for your staff? How often do you use your staff outside of combat?
And if PA wants to fix stupid rule inbalances i can find a whole lot of sillyness:
The choasmaster (the only hope in hell you have of beating him is to get every power up in maganamund)
The fact that pyschomancy is useless in every book in the series, but you need it to beat book 2, simply becuase it acts a plot device.
Simarly, animal kinship in lone wolf book 2 (unless your prepared to endure super tough combats and are dumb enough to attack yoru firends and not let sleeping dogs lie)
And I'm sure I can think of other sillyness.
