I added it to the rules. Since you'd get the exact same message when you couldn't take the money, modifying the tooltip message would have seemed stupid.

The Darkling Room fight is a mental one. On one hand, based on the text you don't have time to use the Alether. On the other hand, in the original text, you use your willpower and endurance total as CS, so using it to raise your CS would be meaningless. This is one rule I bent a little: in the program I use the CS and WP to calculate the CS value and use EN as EN. This way your CS won't be decreased after each hit and there is a clear ending of the battle. But I still don't think Alether should be allowed here. Ok, fair enough. I agree with your decision. No sir, upon reaching this section I had 5 items in my Herb Pouch and 1 Meal in my backpack. However, I have noticed that in sections 161, 193, and 215 where you are offered treasure troves of loot, none of these items lose their blue/underlined font as you take them. The issue with section 58 isn't problematic, persay, it's just inconsistent to other loot sections, like the Gaoler (243, 37) and Shan's backpack (43). Ah, ok. Methinks this should be displayed somewhere in the help menu, though. Also, if you click on another running application (I'm going back and forth between Gamebooks.exe and IE, for example), when you go back to your program, the image window is no longer there and you have to hit the image button twice to re-enable it. The amulet should have no bearing on this value. The PA footnotes define it as a one-time "restore" to your WP at the start: "[5] The bonus to your WILLPOWER score provided by the Magic Talisman is added to your WILLPOWER score only once and does not prevent your score from falling to zero." I'll be damned. Alright then, but there's no way to know this. Like the image window, I suggest this be added to the help menu somewhere. No sir. I know a few words and can conjugate some verbs, but my knowledge is essentially that of a Spanish-1 middle/high school student. Well, I downloaded the source to GS1 last night and tried to open it in Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition (it's what we use at work so it's what I have), where it wanted to convert the project. Seems that the conversion was unsuccessful. So I'm out of luck on this point. But I'll continue to playtest your program. New bug 1: At the start, after using Elementalism and proceeding to the next section (140), 3 EP are mysteriously deducted from my total. Maybe there's a false flag in section 202 that thinks you should eat a meal? There's no indication in the PA text that this is so. New (possible) bug 2: Tarama seed usage. Ugh, I can see where these would be a pain to implement. My initial test using them was section 88 where you spend 3 WP points, but two different instances - a bolt for 2 WP, and a "charged" melee attack for 1 WP. Using a Tarama seed in this section refunds all 3 WP. From a programming/book rules interpretation, I'd like to assume that this is valid. From an RP perspective, it seems that since there are two instances, using a seed would refund 2, and you can use an additional seed to refund the 1. Or, using a seed here consumes two and restores the full 3. This is your call, but I like the way it's handled currently - one seed refunds all WP expended in any particular non-combat section. Additionally, in section 22 you can light your way using 1 WP to make your staff glow. I did so and proceeded to the next section (334) where the 1 WP was deducted. I attempted to use a Tarama seed to refund that point, but it was ineffective. Maybe because the WP loss was defined in the choice instead of the text body? I have successfully completed book 1 (thanks to a truly EPIC character generation - 19 CS, 28 WP, 29 EP ;D), but I will go back and try to test some other paths and mechanics.

Loot bug: now I see the problem, it's fixed.
Image box: i modified it so when you return to the prog's form from wherever you were it also calls the image box forth. You might see some flickering if they overlap. [The image box didn't disappeared, it just stayed under IE's window.] Description of the usage of the image box was and is in the "About the program" section of the help.
The amulet works like this: in the beginning you have, eg. 20 willpower points. You take the amulet. Now you have 22 points. You spend 21 points, so you have 1 left. If now you take off the amulet, you'll have -1 willpower points. And this was the point where the problem was: the program here counted with the no-medal value instead of the with-medal one. Of course, if at this point you drop the medal, you'll see you have -1 willpower points.
Dropping item: I already added a note for both the LW and GS rules at pi4t's request.
Elementalism: yes, there was...
Tarma bug: No, this definately would need two seeds to counter the two spells, so I modified this section to stop at the middle, and give the players the chance to use one seed before casting the second time. I also checked the other books, but as far as I see, this is the only place like this.
Staff glowing: There are two ways to lose willpower points. Either you use a magick power or they are drained from you. In the latter case, tarama seeds would be useless, so every time GS loses WP (or EP) by magickal means, it's recorded in a separate variable. In this case, the wrong method was used to register the loss.
You won't be able to convert or compile the project. Some autogenerated files were left out of them [unintentionally, never thinking someone would actually try to compile them] that is needed by the VS, and even after that there would be some problems. The interesting things are the xmls anyway, which aren't compiled, and the BookCommunicator.vb in the appropriate .ctr.zip, which requires some guesswork to figure out. Some of the previous bugs can be solved by only using these.

It's been a while, but I'm taking a break from getting mercilessly slaughtered in FFIV DS and running through Grey Star Book 2. My findings so far:
- Section 247. The Chaksu Pipes are not lootable. - Section 71. The 1 END loss was not deducted. - Section 234. The 3rd choice to use Enchantment has a small typo ("If you and wish to use...") - Section 72. While I like the way this program is set up (only being able to see the choices available to you), you're given no indication that if you possess Alchemy and Azawood Leaves, that you use them in the next section (299). Section 299's text assumes you read the previous section's options, so in your program suddenly reading "You take out one of the huge leaves and unfold it" is a little confusing. Maybe in the previous section (72), the "Next" link should say "To use an Azawood leaf, turn to 299"? - Section 291. The 2 END loss was not deducted. - Section 129. The 2 END loss was not deducted. - Section 52. The 2nd and 3rd paragraphs are exactly the same. - Section 39. I lost 1 END on the last round, but it wasn't deducted. - Section 221. The 1 END loss was not deducted, and there are two links to the next section. - Sections 238, 237, 215. Failed attempts at Sorcery to open the door prompted me "You decide to use the power of Psychomancy". While I realize at this point it's either that or an instadeath, the original text says "If you do not possess either of these skills, or do not wish to use them". Let me die for not wanting to do anything! You shouldn't ever force a player to use a magical power, as long as the original text specifies doing nothing as this one does. - Book 3. The full-page pics seem to be larger than books 1 and 2.
That's all for now. Seems I didn't lose any endurance at all, neither by plot nor combat. I started book 2 using my old save from May 1st. Maybe some changes in code since then messed something up.

Wow, good bunch - Section 247. The Chaksu Pipes are not lootable. They are changed to be lootable. - Section 71. The 1 END loss was not deducted. This has something to do with the global no-ep-loss... - Section 234. The 3rd choice to use Enchantment has a small typo ("If you and wish to use...") fixed - Section 72. Since the book doesn't seem to give you a choice in this matter either, I modified 299's text this way: “You take out one of the huge Azawood Leaves and unfold it.” On the other hand, maybe giving the player a choice here would be more polite - Section 291. The 2 END loss was not deducted. - Section 129. The 2 END loss was not deducted. Same as before - Section 52. The 2nd and 3rd paragraphs are exactly the same. fixed - Section 39. I lost 1 END on the last round, but it wasn't deducted. S.A.B. - Section 221. The 1 END loss was not deducted, and there are two links to the next section. S.A.B. and fixed - Sections 238, 237, 215. I see what you mean. For all three I added the choice of not using the magicks mentioned. - Book 3. The full-page pics seem to be larger than books 1 and 2. Strange... Try now... That's all for now. Seems I didn't lose any endurance at all, neither by plot nor combat. I started book 2 using my old save from May 1st. Maybe some changes in code since then messed something up. Well, it's pretty funny actually. You did lose endurance, but a debug line was accidentally left in the code that caused you to have +50 endurance points, and the function correcting similar nonsense wasn't prepared for this scenario. Your last saved game is still good, it only messed with the characters in book 2.

There's no button to start the book over or anything, I had to click the "X" at the top and reroll a new character. I added a "Start new game" button next to the "Load game" one. You'll still have to reroll a character, but at least you won't have to make a big detour for it. It only works for LW and TWoLW, for the CH I'll have to think about something else.

Hello! It's been a while! Here's what I've discovered so far from Grey Star book 3:
- All END lost seems to have been deducted from my maximum END as well as current. - Sections 242, 106, 252, 197 - The choice for the Eagle Key is 277 (which is actually the Dragon). I checked the original text and it should be 227.
That's it for now. I didn't explore all paths, but was able to complete the book successfully.

Hi!
The max END problem originated from a typo. That and the links are fixed now.
Thanks for the catches.

also: grey star 1, section 88, when i click on "next" it just deducts from my WP and does not advance. I can keep clicking it until my WP and END are completely drained.

Hi!
I'll check these problems as soon as I get back home, but unfortunately that will be on Sunday afternoon. Thank you for catching both of these.

Hello again!
The Freeway Warrior book's problem was a mixup; I added the wrong ammo for the rifle and the shotgun, and that resulted in an exception that shouldn't have happened, and so wasn't handled properly -- I guess you chose one of those as your starting weapon. The GS error was a typo, and is now fixed.

Grey Star 1 - Section 54. Avoiding the Yaku gave me the same "Continue with the next book in the series" bug that I encountered during my initial testing. I could not continue the adventure from that point (which sucks 'cause I rolled 9s for both my CS and WP).
