Here's the kicker, though. It cannot be used in conjunction with any other form of psychic attack. That right there implies that Kai-blast takes the place of normal psychic attacks - which are part of the whole combat round. So Kai-blast is part of a normal round, and you take an 8CS penalty. I'd guess the best time to use it would be if your combat ratio already has you pretty screwed and you think you can finish it fast this way. Maybe.
As for the quiver, I always read that very literally: my quivers contained six arrows when I got them. I had no problems with sticking in more as I went along! I believe it was actually Statskeeper that first stopped me doing this, and I recall seeing something since, somewhere in the books (no doubt someone can point me in the right direction), that also implies the six-arrow capacity.

Also it does bite that you cannot use Kai-Alchemy to craft weapons and artifacts. It would be nice to have the ability to do this - not during missions, but maybe before a mission...?
Maybe we should put together a rules supplement that would allow you to do this. Added complexity for players who would like to have it.
Weapons would probably be used to increase CS or EP... but you could include special powers, too... like "roll 2 matching numbers in consecutive rounds of combat for an automatic win" or something like that.

I had the impression, reading the books, that Joe Dever imagined the skill of Kai Alchemy a bit different when he created the Grand Master skills, before writing n. 13 - The Lord Plague of Ruel - In a section in book n. 13 you can use the Kai Alchemy to create an explosive that can destroy a door, with chemical elements from your backpack. Probably the original idea for Kai Alchemy was that of using items you find during the adventures to create potions, artifacts, etc... ( a kind of Alchemy of Grey Star, or Herbology for New Order Grand Masters ). Later the Kai Alchemy became just the Magic of the Crystal Brotherhood. I thought that Magi-Magic and Kai Alchemy were quite similar, with the difference that there are mooooore Kai Alchemy spells rather than Magi-Magic ones, even if these are supposed to be more powerful ( maybe ? ). I would suggest to the crew of Project Aon to clearly specify the use of the Kai Blast in the Lone Wolf book they're working on, n.16 - The Legacy of Vashna -

That would certainly seem to be the reasoning behind the name and the description. No idea what happened there to make it a second spell array. I think that when the full Grand Master series is available, one or the other (probably Magi-magic) will become my 'dump discipline'. (It was the Animal Disciplines for the Kai and Magnakai series... besides book 2, I always got along fine without them!)
