Hey guys, I thought you might enjoy some old Screen Shots of a Lone Wolf program I started back in 1990! (I was 12-13 years old.) The project was written in BASIC, and you could only complete the opening sections of text, plus get about 2 choices into the book, and then it would just be done. You could actually look at your Action Chart, though, but I don't think you could actually save/restore games. See, I've wanted to do a program like Seventh Sense for a *long* time! (that was fully 20 years ago) I actually still have the BASIC game files, and can play this in DOSBOX. That's how I took the screen shots. (It might be kind of fun to capture a video of the gameplay. It wouldn't be long, but definitely nostalgic!) Hope you enjoyed seeing the old style Lone Wolf! EDIT: other interesting tidbit - I had to manually type in the text from the book. AND, to aid in formatting, I would specify to the computer some number of either characters or spaces or something, so in my 1st Lone Wolf real paper book, I've got several sections of text with these cryptic numbers penciled in the margins next to each line.)

I went ahead and did that video I mentioned. I put it on youtube, and now you can see everything (and I mean all of it) that the program had to offer. If you watch it on this page, you'll want to hit "fullscreen" so the text is readable. (If you actually read some of it, you'll see an odd typo now and then. e.g. masscre, as a result of my having to type it all in) Syntax error, GOTO HHHH... too funny! I had some real epic programs, too. But they *all* ended like that. Until I learned "real" programming (C++). Well, I hope you enjoy the blast from my past! --------------------------- Edit: Figured I'd post a scan of the book with "cryptic numbers" in the margins, too. That completes the trip down memory lane for me. Feel free to comment, complain, or remain tactfully silent as you see fit!

Not exactly sure, but probably some kind of alignment/formatting thing.

definitely formatting- looks like the number of leading spaces required to center the text on an 80-column text screen ("can save your life", 18 characters total plus 31 leading and 31 trailing = 80)

What a great little program. Can't believe you've stored it all this time! I'd love to still have my old comics and stories from around that age.
(Been trying to find work and subsequently add to the CV/portfolio but I'll try and make time to try a few more medal templates.)

What a great little program. Can't believe you've stored it all this time! I'd love to still have my old comics and stories from around that age. I actually have *most* of my old programs from around that time, including home-made 4 color image editors for making images to be used in other games I made, DND/Dragonlance Character generators, arcade-style fighting games, and epic RPGs with a selection of races including Wer-fish (Think were-wolf, but like a fish. Yeah, kind of dumb, but I thought it was kewl!) Most ended with "Goto HHHH", and if I recall, not a single major program was ever actually finished (except the very basic image editor, which was simply a tool to help with other, unfinished, games.) I've PMed you regarding a few ideas.

You Sir are my new personal hero. Your Seventh Sense is marvelous! I wanted something like this for ages! I have to admit that I too attempted to create something like this, but I was very young (well not so young as in your first attempt, mine was with a C++ Builder). But I went only so far as to create the Action Chart. At that time the books weren't released on the net and my will kind of crumbled when I realized that I'd have to manually copying all the texts. At least I had a cool Action Chart with drop down menus to select items, powers and stuff. Then my hard disk died and I lost it all Your Seventh Sense it's amazing. Nice user friendly interface, clear and easy to read Action Chart and auto filling fields. You can even customize the rules! Have I already said that you are my new personal hero?
