Hi all! I see that book 12 calls for "if you have a Black Key", which, of course, can be found in book 12, but also you find a Black Key in book 10...
Are they one and the same? Does the Key from book 10 work in book 12? You get it from a Drakkar captain...
Also, Book 10 calls it a Special item, while book 12 refers to it as a Backpack item. So, maybe two different keys? Like the ones in Book 1 and 3 (Silver Key - one is Backpack Item, one is Special Item.
What do you think? For now, I'm calling them two separate keys, but I'm cool going back and changing it to one key.

I really like that when you find something in a pervious book you get to use it in future books... except for keys... they are (or should be) so unique... and the fact as you said one is backpack item (WTF?) and one is special item makes me believe those keys aren't looking the same. so I'm for 2 different keys... I guess all keys in the Darklands are black, but hopefully not formed the same way

I agree with jbryntze... most keys found in the books are for use in that book only...

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'll keep it as is : two separate items - you have to have the one from the book you're in.

Same thing for a Skeleton Key : you find it in Kazan-Oud (tome 7) and they ask you, in tome 10, if you have this item to open a door in the dungeons of Torgar. Is it the same Skeleton Key ?

Yes, Skeleton Key only picked up in Book 7 but can be used in Book 7 & 10. No idea why you can't take it as a Grand Master or use it in other locks.

Didn't read the whole of this, yes I would say the Black Key from 10 is different to 12.
Also Book 1 (Mongoose Edition) now gives a Gold Key at the Kai Monastery for use to enter the Grand Master's chambers but in the Graveyard of the Ancients you need a Golden Key.

Since one is a backpack item and the other is a special item, I think they are different keys. The one in book 10 is probably a huge arm-long key that cannot be easily put in your pocket or something.
However the skeleton key, by its own definition, should be able to open almost every lock. I don't remember this item in book 7, but IIRC there's no way to find one in book 10.
