Cubicle 7 to publish the lone wolf game books

I hope they've stepped up their customer service.

Trying to get a reply from Dominic McDowall was like pulling hens teeth on the LW game Kickstarter a year ago.

Unfortunately, the question that I most wanted answered on FB wasn't: (by Francis Legault) "Good! But what about Mantikore? They had publishing rights for some of the books. Will they continue the publication in English? And for Mega-Dealers from Mongoose: will it be transfered to Cubicle 7?"

Yes, for sure they will be removed from Mantikore and only sold by C7.

The books are already viewable in the c7 shop (18-22 and 29) and has been removed from Mantikore (This applies to the english versions only.)

Yes, but I think books 18 to 22 are leftovers from Mantikore and will not be reprinted until C7 have published the first 17 books. Book 19 by Mantikore is already sold out.

I'm no longer able to find any of the books on Mantikore's site. Has there been any word on what's going to happen with collector's versions of 23-28?

Hello everybody, Dom speaking.

I've had to make a very difficult decision. It is with a very heavy heart that I have to tell you that Cubicle 7 will not be publishing Joe Dever's Lone Wolf solo gamebooks.

Over-committing is one of the big dangers of companies our size, and I’ve had to take a hard look at what we’re planning to make sure that we’re not falling into that trap. As the solo gamebook project has unfolded I have become increasingly uncomfortable with our ability to give Joe's amazing work the publishing home it deserves. I am a life-long fan of Joe’s books, and I realise I've acted with my heart rather than my head in taking them on.
I am determined that Cubicle 7 always does the best possible job with every product we release, and if we’re spread too thinly we won’t be able to maintain that quality. I feel it would be fairest to everyone to stop before we begin, rather than risk getting part way through the series and letting everyone down.

Our primary focus for Lone Wolf is the Adventure Game, and I want all our energy to go into making that the best it can be. The Lone Wolf Adventure Game is entirely unaffected by this decision.
We will be in contact with those of you who pre-ordered to arrange a refund, or a credit note with some additional value by way of apology.
I’m very sorry for the disappointment this announcement will cause, it certainly wasn’t an easy call to make but I feel it is a necessary one.

Cubicle 7’s decision not to proceed with publishing the Lone Wolf Collector Editions is disappointing to say the least. It places me in a very difficult situation that was entirely unforeseen. Please be assured that I will do everything I can to get LW29 and the CE back catalogue into print as soon as possible. Negotiations are already underway with two major publishers in the USA. I am also looking into publishing them myself under my own imprint, although this the most difficult route for me to take as my work schedule is maxed out for the next six months with writing the LWAG supplements and Lone Wolf 30. Somewhat ironically, the Collector Series continues to go from strength to strength in Italy, and it will be introduced into France this year where Lone Wolf books have been on sale continually without a break since 1985. As Dom stated in his announcement, LWAG is unaffected by his decision not to publish the Collector Series. The pdf of ‘Heroes of Magnamund’ is now complete and it will be sent out to backers next week.

Unfortunately, Cubicle 7 posted on January 29th that they will not in fact be publishing the Lone Wolf books. They will continue publishing the adventure game that they have, but not the solo books

Anyone else heard of any other possibilities, or does it look like the collectors' editions of the last books are in trouble?

If you read what Joe said (check in Beowuuf's post, right after the message from Dom McDowall), he's in talks with two publishers in the US. We're waiting for more info on this.

As for the Collector's Edition being in trouble, it might look so. But I don't think the republication of the series is in jeopardy. We might just get regular, softcover gamebooks, with or without the bonus adventures, when/if a new publisher is found. As the publication of the new books, the Italian version of book 29 is out and the French version is coming in June, so we will see these books (it might just not be in a language you'll understand ).

*sigh* The last American copy of any Lone Wolf book was in '96 by Berkley (Book #20). I was crushed when I learned that there would be no more. Now I've got through Book #22; unedited but with it's own set of errors (mainly early on). Now, over 20 years later, I'm back where I was in '96.

If anyone in Great Britain hears loud sobbing coming from across the pond that would be me, in a dark room, curled in a fetal position.
