You might want to consider chance. The Degradon in 13 is avoidable only by luck in picking random numbers (even with skills and items). Several other enemies can only be avoided with luck of the random number table.
The effigy is at best 50% chance to get, unless you metagame how to get it. But it relies on choices made where the player is facing a random situation.
In book 9 as worded, you need to leave the Sommerswerd home not to use it. You never get the choice to use the dagger of vashna.

Yeah, it is quite common for a combat to be avoidable only by a lucky roll on the Random Number Table. It would be interesting to compile a separate list of every combat that one might have to face even with optimal skill in choosing disciplines/acquiring items but minimal luck with regards to the RNT. My lists on this thread are based upon having both maximum skill and maximum luck.

Wise Eagle--Sorry if I was unclear. Some of these combats are avoidable, but only by fighting more difficult combats instead, or a greater number of combats. Perhaps a better title for this thread would have been "a list of the combats fought in each book if following the path attempting to avoid combats as much as possible". I also didn't consider that you might have to risk an insta-death to avoid a combat, as in the case of Zakhan Kimah in book 9. It is arguable which is the better path in this case. I am sure that Ur-Quan has done the math on where the cut off is stats-wise below which it becomes better to throw the dagger vs. fighting him. Indeed I have On By-the-Book the cut-off points is at around CR -3 / -4. So with minimum Endurance, at CR -2 and higher (12 CS, with Alether) it's better to fight him. CR -3 / -4 (11 CS, with Alether) would be around 88% win rate in that case. So with more Endurance then CR -3 / -4 also becomes worth it. Compare to 91% to hit with the dagger (only 9 zeroes). On Hardcore I don't remember exactly but at least at 15 CS at below it's better to throw the dagger (have to fight the old 34 CS version).

On to the Grand Master series. Book 13: 2 Ruel Giganite (CS 38, EP 60), Plague Hound (wounded) (CS 32, EP 36), Exterminus (CS 50, EP 50), Acolyte of Vashna (with Medallion of Protection) (CS 25, EP 40), Vazhag Lancer (CS 32, EP 20) Book 14: Drakkarim (CS 26, EP 35), Ice Dragon (polymorphed Nadziran) (CS 48, EP 52), Zavaghar (CS 52, EP 60) Book 15: Armoury Guards (CS 32, EP 40), Lencian Crusader (CS 34, EP 36), 3 Tukodak Guardians (in battle-frenzy) (CS 44, EP 44), Tarhdemon (polymorphed Nadziran) (CS 42, EP 42), Warlord Magnaarn (with Nyras Sceptre) (CS 50, EP 36) Book 16: Vortexi (weakened by psychic attack) (CS 40, EP 22), Lavas (CS 44, EP 42), Acolytes of Vashna (CS 40, EP 45), Arch Druid Cadak (CS 45, EP 32) Book 17: Ixian Undead (CS 43, EP 52), 3 Kajarda (CS 48, EP 42), Chaos-horde (CS 37, EP 45), Lavas (CS 49, EP 52), Demonlord Tagazin (injured) (CS 45, EP 45), Deathlord Ixiataaga (with Deathstaff—uncharged) (CS 60, EP 39) Book 18: Eldenoran Ambushers (CS 38, EP 42), Ghost of Roark (CS 48, EP 30), Lavas (CS 48, EP 46) Book 19: 2 Cryopedeans (CS 38, EP 32) Book 20: Zantaz (CS 50, EP 46), Kekataag the Avenger (CS 60, EP 58) Book 13: The Ruel Giganite is avoidable. Just go through the tunnels instead, but there is an unavoidable Dholdarg on that path. Not sure about the plague hound being mandatory. Generally would not fight that one. Book 14: Vodok? Maybe it can be killed but then I'd never have that skill. Book 16: There is a second batch of Vortexi which are faced between the acolytes and Cadak. Book 18: There is more mandatory Lavas than one. At least one before reaching the Kai Monastery, and at least one at the Kai Monastery. Book 19: Wolf's Bane You can can vaccuum up the second batch of Vortexi with the Deathstaff. Similarily the Lavas before the Monastery can be "nuked" with Kai-Alchemy / Magi-magic, and another pack avoided with Kai-screen or some luck.

Well, here is another one. A little depending on revision, since the tarnalin sections were reversed early on. But almost all editions requires the magic spear to survive. The Helghast with the magic spear is mandatory in book 2, since Lone Wolf is dead when he reaches Tarnalin without it and it is the only way to get it. "Seeing all the battles in Book 11 that you cannot avoid wonders about the text in the book "Regardless how low combat score you have... yada yada... with right skills and equipment you can make it" sort of thing... that was true until book 11 to avoid all battles in Book 10 is possible but you need luck in the end " I'd actually make that book 1, if you use the mongoose edition, and book 2 otherwise. Book 2 is barely beatable due to the mandatory helghast, oh and same with mongoose book 1. Otherwise, I'd say book 8 is barely beatable if you do it as a standalone and even with moderate CS and EP. This due to the Vordaks at the end. They are both hard to beat and with a time limit too. And if you do it as a standalone, i.e. no Sommerswerd it is extrmely difficuly battle. (2 enemies which must be defeated within 4 rounds, 22 CS 28 EP and 21 CS 26 EP.)

Animal Kinship doesn't help. Unless you have one of the earliest revisions (project aon might have done some adjustments here too).
You don't have the spear then you are sent directly to the helghast ambush, never meeting the noodnic.

I was going by the Project Aon (and Seventh Sense) version, which does not require the Magic Spear. There were print editions that required you to get it, that is true.

You actually have up to six rounds to defeat the Vordaks in the Project Aon version; not sure if that was lengthened at some point.

Actually: Xaol's skeleton guards: cs 45, ep 35, can be avoided by solving a math puzzle.

Thanks. I was just going off the flow charts on this site, which do not include puzzle solutions, hence this oversight.

In book 21, the stats for the slave-trader's henchmen are a cs of 33 and an ep of 36. You reversed it.

Finally, against Kraagenskul in book 12, there's a really easy way to make the fight easier. When you get asked if you have either the sommerswerd or dagger and wish to use either of them, don't. Then you end up fighting 2 easier fights: Crypt Spawn Flood: Cs 30, Ep 36, and Darklord Kraagenskul, (Without Helshezag): Cs 35, Ep 38. If you have completed all the books, you have no chance of dying. This is a lot easier than risking fighting Kraagenskul with the sommerswerd or fighting him with 45 cs and the dagger. In book 11, the scarlet warrior has an ep of 30, not 50.
