I feel compelled to throw in my contribution to this thread, in part because of the contribution that Joe played towards my love of fantasy and gaming in general. The Lone Wolf and Freeway Warrior books took me to places that no TV show or film ever could, and to this day, I’ve yet to have a reading experience that compares. I was lucky enough to meet Joe twice, the first time at a gaming convention in 2014, with the second meeting coming at the same convention the following year. Not only that, I was privileged enough to be part of a lengthy conversation with Joe and few other fans during that first meeting. It felt very surreal. I mean, how often do you get to chat with your childhood hero? And it wasn’t just a casual conversation; we were all chatting for what felt like a good 15 minutes, maybe even longer, going into detail on a variety of Lone Wolf and Freeway Warrior related topics.
When I met Joe the following year, we didn’t get to chat, which was unfortunate, but when he saw me, Joe immediately recognized me from the year before. Joe must meet thousands of fans every year, and the fact he remembered me was very humbling.
It’s been a year since Joe died, and I didn’t realize until reading this thread that we’d just passed the first anniversary. It didn’t feel real at the time, and it still doesn’t feel real. In fact, it feels ‘wrong’ that Joe isn’t with us anymore. But I choose to handle Joe’s passing by looking at it like this; rather than be said that Joe is gone, I’m happy he was here at all. Because despite the sadness I feel at his death, I won’t let that tarnish the happiness his work brought me.

Happy New year; I´m sure Joe Dever wanted a true homage to Lone Wolf in form of hope to new and better dimensions of living.
