I know, I have too much free time. But this is something that has always bugged me. What is the right pronounciation for the city-state of Cloesia? Do we pronounce the "o" and/or the "e"?
1. Cl-oh-eh-sia
2. Cl-oh-sia
3. Cl-eh-sia
Even the "s" at the end bugs me. How do we pronounce it in that particular name?
1. Cloe-zia
2. Cloe-ssia
3. Cloe-jzia (like in the name Jian)
I'm curious to hear you on that. Since it's a book, you may all have different takes on it. Or maybe there has been all along a consensus that I've never read about?

I always went with Cloh-asia, kind of a contraction of Chloe and Asia. How to pronounce it in French has always been more of a mystery to me. Chloé-Asie ? ^_^

One of the nice things about books is that you get to decide the correct pronunciation for yourself.

The Cloesian people has always had me confused geographically. Do "Arabs" live here? I know Vassagonia pretty much represents them, but Cloesia being so close to Sommerlund was just wondering if these are a "mixed" people or what?
I know this doesn't really matter, but every country is Magnamund seemed to represent, to some degree, a type of people group in the "real" world.

Hahaha! I was hoping opinions on the matter, but never dreamed I would actually receive a verbal answer. When it comes to Lone World, there is indeed no information that can't be provided here. Good job!
And thank you to everyone who offered their ideas and opinions on the matter.
@black Cat - Sadly, the Gallimard Books show little continuity in the spelling of the countries. We see Cleosia/Cloésie, Talestria/Talestrie, Eldenora/Eldenor, etc. I guess that's the price to pay when you translate 28 books who were published in a span of about 33 years

I have a bigger issue when it comes to names that are totally different in French than in the original version, without any real explanation or connection to the original name: Monstre de l'Enfer for Helghast, Glok for Giak...

in spanish we read it as "cloeasia", as in the maps, pronouncing all the letters... well, at least that's what i always did.
to me it's one of the most fascinating countries of magnamund.
while lone wolf had his first adventures on sommerlund (north and south), durenor, vassagonia, the wild lands, stornlands ... he never put a step on this nation named cloeasia that looked nice on the maps but the reader never knew how it looked like until the arrival of the magnamund companion or the rpg's.
there were few hints about it and all of them let you imagine this country any way you wanted it: - the borders were not clear. - in the map of "the chasm of doom" kadan is pictured like a northern city (as ragadorn) and lujar too, while kuchek and vakar were clearly of vassa architecture... was kuchek part of cloeasia or vassagonia? - when you met the asaji players they dress as the sommlending and durenese people you met in your prior adventures but their boss, yesu, dresses as a vassa (the "arab" style).
then when you read (decades later) "the skull of agarash" you find that kadan is fully a vassa town, and also francesco mattioli amended it this way on his maps. and when you read its definition on the magnamund manuals you realise it's primarily inhabited by vassa people. it's curious because in origin i think this was the land of bonemen people or northern people... or at least of the same race of the ragadorn residents... so it could be inhabited by a mixed population.
anyway i like to imagine it as a mix of cultures, maybe like the spanish kingdoms on the early middle ages where you could find christian kings dressing like arabs or muslim caravans crossing the pyrenees without any disturbance or even scandinavian people doing business or serving as soldiers on the corduba's army.
ps.: i won't say any comment about their awful flags.
