Greetings everybody!
While waiting for the publishing of LW30 book in English, I prepared some more visual walkthroughs for Lone Wolf gamebooks.
Starting from book 01 I plan to slowly complete them all.
I know that there are already graphics with paths available from the LW01 to LW28 book, but they are not as much detailed as I wish.
I play the books again and again with the apps, I hunt for items, so I don't want to miss any useful section.
My intent is to share this work with everybody, I hope you enjoy it.
I am also sharing a classic written walkthrough, the road I recommend to choose.
CHALLENGE: This book is hard.
Sometimes the reader does not have sufficient hints to choose the best path.
One mistake and you are dead.
Having good stats or gear is not enough to complete the quest.
I strongly recommend to reroll your stats at the beginning of the book untill you have Combat Skill (CS) 19 (= 10 base + 9 roll).
Do not accept Endurance values lower than 25.
This will benefit you in the long run. You will continue with these stats in books 02-12.
You can complete the books with luck and skill, but during the Magnakai books (from 06 to 12) you will fight very strong foes with CS higher than yours even with top gear.
ITEMS: The most important items you need to find in this book are Gold Crowns (GC).
In the following book, LW02, you will need at least 20GC to buy the Ticket to Port Bax.
Only three special items are worth of mention.
The Helmet (+2 ENDURANCE) that you can find at the beginning with initial roll. You will lose this item in book LW03, replaced by the Silver Helm, but you can pick up another Helmet in LW07 for your collection.
The Chainmail Waistcoat (+4 ENDURANCE) that you can find at the beginning with initial roll. However you will lose this in the following book, LW02. You will pick up another Chainmail Waistcoat in book LW04.
The Crystal Star Pendant (a gift from Banedon), for lore purpose, otherwise unuseful.
You will be able to use the Monastery Deposit (Item Storage) starting from book LW05.
KAI DISCIPLINES:
01) - Weaponskill (with Swords)
02) - Healing
03) - Mindblast
04) - Sixth Sense
05) - Camouflage
Boosting CS is your second top priority (the first is staying alive!!).
So Weaponskill (with Swords) and Mindblast are important.
You will get the Sommerswerd in LW02 and Swords are the most common weapons.
Healing is the most important skill in the game. Try to not pick up Healing and enjoy playing relying on potions.
Sixth Sense is needed to gather items, lore purpose and of course staying alive!
Camouflage is useful to skip fights.
You can complete LW01 book without fighting just with Sixth Sense and Camouflage.
However you will need to fight in the other books!
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
This story has the most non-linear path in all the LW books, you can be very fast or very slow in reaching the end of the book.
You will miss many things. I recommend to see Holmgard at least once in a lifetime, many funny episodes here.
You can avoid the fight the Burrowcrawler, but he has only 7 END and 20GC reward.
Do not be greedy about backpack items and weapons, you will lose them in the next book LW02.
In the end of the adventure it is important to keep at least 20GC for our next quest.
THE STORY:
You start at:
--- KAI MONASTERY RUINS ---
(1) You will need Sixth Sense to meet Banedon and get the Crystal Star Pendant.
(141) Cut through the heavier foliage towards the northeast.
--- RUINS OF RAUMAS TEMPLE ---
(131) Shout a warning to Banedon to avoid one (easy) fight with a Giak. Pick up the Crystal Star Pendant, for lore purpose. You can take it and leave it to the Monastery Deposit later in book 05.
(281) Break cover and climb up the hill.
--- HILL WITH GIAKS ---
(311) With Camouflage you will avoid one fight with 2x Giaks. With luck you can hide in the cave and skip it anyway. Explore the cave to gather 3 GC.
(248) Follow the track north.
(44) ROLL OF LUCK: if 0-4 = loss of 1x Weapon, if 5-9 = safe!
(113) Pick up 2x Meal of Laumspur (+3 END). Head northeast.
(347) Pick up 1x Torch (needed for your next fight with the Burrowcrawler). Gather 1x Short Sword (in case you lost your weapon before) and 1x Tinderbox.
(103) Continue towards the northeast.
(287) Hack your way slowly through the undergrowth.
(330) Examine the contents of the bundle: +6GC and +1x Perfumed Soap.
--- BURROWCRAWLER TUNNEL ---
(331) Enter the Tunnel.
(170) FIGHT! Burrowcrawler (CS = 17 / END = 7).
If you miss the Torch, decrease your CS by 3 for this fight.
Reward is +20GC and +1x Dagger.
(157) Join the refugees and learn more of what has happened in the north.
(30) Help the children, but do not fight the Giaks. Run to the farmhouse.
(148) You can take 1x Warhammer and search the room further for 1x Meal.
(81) Do not call the knights or you will be asked to attend the Battle of Alema Bridge, where you will face a Gourgaz (CS=20/END=30).
You will be warned two times to avoid this fight.
It is safer to continue along the forest edge towards the south.
(200) If you have Camouflage you can directly skip the bodyguard. Otherwise you will need to inform him that you are a Kai Lord with an urgent message for the King.
--- KRAAN ATTACKS ---
(64) Cut free one of the horses and try to break through the attacking Doomwolves to the clear road beyond.
(192) Veer off the highway towards the cover of the trees.
(303) With Camouflage (and ROLL OF LUCK 5-9), you can skip one fight with Giak + Doomwolf (CS =15 / END = 24).
--- ROLLING PLAIN TOWARDS HOLMGARD ---
(142) You are brave enough to risk the unknown perils of the Graveyard of the Ancients.
Actually if you follow the right path, this is the best route. You can also pick up one extra item in LW03 book by passing here.
Be warned that if you don't follow the right path (described below), there is a high chance of instant death.
--- GRAVEYARD OF THE ANCIENTS ---
(71) Sixth Sense will warn you to leave via the tunnel.
(104) Go south to get the Golden Key, otherwise you will face later a ROLL OF DEATH.
(100) Sit on the throne and pick up the Golden Key.
(23) Use the Golden Key and avoid a ROLL OF DEATH.
Straight path to Holmgard.
--- CITY OF HOLMGARD ---
(129) Continue following the officer and keep on trusting the man that will escort you directly to the king and the end of your quest.
(350) VICTORY!!!
You will meet the king and he will ask you to go to Durenor to retrieve the Sommerswerd!
The next book is one of the best ever of the saga. It is even more difficult than this book.
Gather your strenght and be ready for your next adventure: FIRE ON THE WATER (LW02)!
--- EXTRA: HOLMGARD CITADEL ---
If you don't have at least 20GC with you (you should have, if you followed this walkthrough), there is an extra bonus path in Holmgard.
Don't follow the officer and leave for the King's Citadel.
(144) Loss of one Backpack Item or one Weapon.
Choose to fight the Madman (CS = 11 / END =10).
The reward is 10GC. Accept the offer of the officer to escort you.
(314) ROLL OF LUCK: 0-6 = the guards will not believe you. 7-9 = they believe you and let you pass. You will meet the king anyway.
(341) If the guards did not believe you, you will enter the citadel anyway.
I recommend to search for another route into the citadel.
(37) With Camouflage, you will see one of the best acts ever played by Lone Wolf!
In any way you will be again on your route to meet the king.
