Why did Lone Wolf know what he have to do with the psychic Ring seconds before the fight with Zakhan Kimah? When he finds the ring in the underground he hasn´t any idea of the skills of this ring. And what do you think: Perhaps the ghoul with the ring was the son of Maghana - the master of the thiefs. And Maghana wants the ring back. After the end of the book it could be wise for Lone Wolf to return the ring to Maghana. The timeline between the books 9 and 10 tells us that Lone Wolf stays in Tahou half a year. Perhaps he bribes the thief with the sacks of silver from book 8 to keep the ring. No. Presuming of course that LW met Maggy, and was coerced by the mind orb (which makes no sense, as if a puny mind orb can beat kai screen), during the year LW spent in Tahou after the siege in my history, he goes and pays Mags a visit, using the power of the ring to defend himself against the orb. He then teaches our friend the thief master what a bad thing it is to mess with a not-so-friendly magnakai.

Agreed! Maghara deserves a quiet visit after the siege to teach him what a bad thing it is to mess with a not-so-friendly Magnakai (Capital M please...). Very quiet, no killing, just some intimidation, yes Maghara is a thief and murderer, but LW should be able to freak his little socks off. LW (as a Kai Lord) does have a reputation to uphold. Imagine Maghana going down to his local pub and saying 'Yeah, I met that Lone Wolf bloke, he wasn't scary, in fact I had him right where I wanted him with no trouble at all.' It just doesn't quite sit right does it? What next he gets mugged for the Dagger of Vashna or the Silver Helm, as LW I just couldn't let anyone get one over me on principal...

There is actually two more uses for these rings, though most players will have abilities or items, or make (better) choices, that lead them to other parts through the books. The Psychic Ring can be used in battle with the Zadragon in Book 9, and both rings can help you if Taktaal makes a psychic attack on you in Book 12. So what exactly IS the Grey Crystal Ring? Some forgotten artifact? Ultra-rare magical item? Something the Shianti/Elder Magi of old left behind?

We have no background story of the ring, do we? - I think it is just a *real* magical item. It seems real magic itself is relatively rare in Magnamund. (At least compared to something like the 'typical' D&D world.)

Aww, nuts... So much for hoping for some really cool background notes about it somewhere in the Magnamund arcana...
I guess it'll remain as mysterious as the story of Grey Star during the Kai Grand Master series.

I'm sorry! - Don't know of any. - Maybe someone else around? But I guess you're right with your guess... Sad that the Newsletters aren't continued. Joe seemed always to come up with something interesting if asked about such nonsense, ...uuh, I mean,... cool things! ;-)

It was originally Kai's toe-ring, but then he realised toe-rings were freaky and off-putting, so he threw it out. The tale of how it got into the hands of Maggy's son is almost as long as it is boring.

So, Is the god Kai a fashion victim of the late 70's, or the early 90's? This ring should have had a small permanent bonus to LW's psychic combat abilities (say plus one or two at the most) added if you used PSI Surge (not Mind blast, that skill is a bit more basic)...and I don't think it would have unbalanced anything (also it shouldn't add to Kai Blast either, as this skill should already surpass other's psychic abilities already on it's own)...

You need the psychic ring in book 11 against Shadow reapers, cs 24, ep 40. It adds plus 3 cs during the fight. I wouldn't give the ring back because the book doesn't say to.
