Hey everyone, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that there's a Kickstarter to fund the Lone Wolf AR game going on right now. I know most of us who haunt the Project Aon message boards are probably Magnamund fans from way back and therefore comfortably out of AR gaming's most targeted age demographic, but I'd still love to see this project come to fruition so that I can continue in my quest to infect the 11 and 12 year olds I teach with the Lone Wolf obsession that haunts me to this day. At the very least, the Kickstarter isn't being run by Megara, so that's got to be a good sign, right? Anyway, if a single dad public schoolteacher like me can manage to shake loose a few bucks/quid/whatever your slang for local currency is, surely some of the rest of you can too My 11 year old son even pledged about $45 of the money he's been saving, saying "So, it's like Pokemon Go with Lone Wolf and boss fights and we can be on a team? This has to happen!" So far (as of August 17) the project has managed to raise about $11k out of a $45k goal, and it runs through September 6th.

Thanks for that. It was nice to see Joe's picture on their page and that he got full credit for the creation of the world. I am unlikely to do more than dabble with this game, but I put in a few quid.

The creators of this have pulled their Kickstarter as it was a long way off meeting its goal.
It looks they are continuing with development of the game despite this:

Creators take note - I would back an officially-licensed software that brings the original books to PC/mobile/consoles with a presentation as slick as Forge Reply's LW game, but not this. Maybe I'm too old, maybe it's my social anxiety disorder, but I have no interest in walking around in public on my phone playing a game.

Yeah, agreed unfortunately. Us old fogies (who were the original fans) are the wrong demographic for this type of game I think.

There's still 32 hours to contribute to the campaign and from what I see, people are still giving. What happens to the money pledged if they don't reach their goal? Does it go back to the backers?

I don't think the money leaves your account till the end of a successful kickstarter? That certainly happened when I backed R-Type Final 2.

Yeah, the money doesn't leave your account unless the Kickstarter comes out successfully. Ofecks, I hear what you're saying about most of us not being in to that sort of game... but at the same time I'm still always hoping for ways to to interest the younger generation in Lone Wolf so that it doesn't completely die out when all of us old fogies are put permanently out to pasture!

Interactive fiction is alive and well. In fact, just browse through Steam and you can see the current proliferation of Japanese-style VNs that were, in its 80s-90s heyday, previously inaccessible to western audiences. The current younger crowd (and especially female gamers) are eating them up. I have a few on my own wishlist that look appealing.
Lone Wolf shouldn't be anime, per se, but I think the IP would do very well in that kind of format.

A non-anime visual novel of each of the books would be awesome. Alternatively, something along the lines of what Inkle did with the four Sorcery! books. They were great in bringing the books into the modern smartphone age while both preserving and expanding on the original stories. The Forge Lone Wolf game looked and sounded pretty good, but was a bit of a slog very quickly (I did see it to the end). I would much prefer varied enemies that are a basic drawing, like the Lone Wolf books or the Inkle Sorcery! games, rather than endlessly facing the same damn few enemies in fancy 3D graphics due to the budget not being big enough. Or just reprint the books in paperback and get them in School libraries. Many a kid who 'doesn't like reading' would be turned, just like in our day.
