Hello everybody!
I would like to share my walkthrough for Lone Wolf book 02: FIRE ON THE WATER.
(see below attached PDF file)
This is the continue of my previous work:
projectaon.proboards.com/thread/2810/lw01-visual-walkthrough-flight-dark
If you did not read this book yet, this is a major spoiler for you, because we explore all the content.
The focus of this document is to complete all the possible sections, to not miss anything.
I play the books again and again with the apps, I enjoy so much hunting for all the possible items.
I personally recommend using Lone Wolf Saga on your tablet for best experience.
I call this work a visual walkthrough (battle map), see PDF attachment below.
My intent is to share this work with everybody, I hope you enjoy it.
I am also sharing a classic written walkthrough, the road I recommend to choose.
You may also enjoy more of my guides of LW29 and LW30.

So let's start with book LW02 - FIRE ON THE WATER:
CHALLENGE: This book is the real killer. Many times you will be forced to decide without a real clue and there are some unavoidable rolls of death that can bring you down, no matter what! So you will learn from your own mistakes! There is one really hard fight with the Helghast where you need to maximise all your gear and stats, but you can skip it if you have Animal Affinity. Up to you to decide. In this book your decisions are important and you need a strategy. From a certain point of view, FIRE ON THE WATER can be one of the most difficult books in the saga, for sure I died many times before knowing what to do! I recommend starting the game with maximum Base Combat Skill (= 19 CS). Base Endurance also should be at least 25 END. You should already have these stats from book LW01, because you will play all first 12 books with these stats. On Magnakai books you will be forced to fight very difficult enemies, especially if you have the Sommerswerd.
ITEMS:
In this book LW02 you will be able to find:
The Shield (+2CS) as starting equipment.
The Chainmail Waistcoat (+4 ENDURANCE) as starting equipment. However you will lose this very soon in the adventure. You will pick up another Chainmail Waistcoat in book LW04.
The Magic Spear, this special item will let you fight the Helghast, but beware! It is a very difficult fight. I strongly recommend to have Mindshield if you choose this path.
The godlike sword Sommerswerd (+8CS), which was really made by the gods! It is so important to get the Sommerswerd (SS) that you are severely gimped in the next books if you miss it. The Sommerswerd will boost your CS by a huge margin, will protect you from hostile magic, will double the damage done to undead enemies, will let you to recover END in some books. And you will also kill some Darklords!
You will be able to use the Monastery Deposit (Item Storage) starting from book LW05.
Useful items from previous adventures:
From book LW01 there are only two items that are important to you now.
The Helmet (+2 ENDURANCE)
The Crystal Star Pendant (a gift from Banedon), for lore purpose.
You also need as many Gold Crowns as you can from previous book, but 22 GC are enough.
KAI DISCIPLINES:
The suggested setup is:
01) LW01 - Weaponskill (with Swords, of course)
02) LW01 - Healing
03) LW01 - Mindblast
04) LW01 - Sixth Sense
05) LW01 - Camouflage
06) LW02 - Animal Affinity (*)
Boosting CS is your second top priority (the first is staying alive!!).
So Weaponskill (with Swords) and Mindblast are important.
Healing is the most important skill in the game. Try to not pick up Healing and enjoy playing relying on potions.
Sixth Sense is needed to gather items, lore purpose and of course staying alive!
Camouflage for consistency with LW01 previous adventure.
(*) Animal Affinity will let you by-pass the encounter with the Helghast at Tarnalin. If you miss Animal Affinity and the Magic Spear, it's death no-matter-what! Trying to acquire the Magic Spear can be suicide against the Helghast with low CS and without Mindshield. So Animal Affinity can be considered almost mandatory if you have low CS.
Once you get the Sommerswerd, you will get a huge boost in CS. The highest possible should be:
19CS base +2CS shield +2CS Weaponskill with Swords + 2CS Mindblast +8CS Sommerswerd = 33CS, more than you really need! You won't have problems with CS until books LW09 and LW11.
STRATEGY - IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
In this story your decisions matters!
Many ROLLS OF DEATH can be avoided with careful planning.
With a wrong choice you can lose a lot of EP for nothing, you can die without being able to do anything at all, you can attack the wrong guy ...
You will lose all weapons and backpack very soon. It will be important to find weapons and food!
And most important thing, don't lose the Seal of Hammerdal! You need the Seal of Hammerdal to recover the Sommerswerd. Any gamer will tell you that in case you miss the major quest item, you will either do the quest again or simply die!
At Ragadorn you will need to buy the Ticket to Port Bax (it costs 20 GC!!), or later you will die!
You won't need more Gold Crowns until book 05.
REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
In case you missed it, if you don't have Animal Affinity, you need to acquire the Magic Spear or you will die later.
If you lose the Seal of Hammerdal, you will loop forever in Port Bax and fail.
Don't ask help to the fishing boat, you will lose the Shield and possibly the Seal of Hammedal!
Don't attacks the knights at the exit of Tarnalin! They are stronger than you and they are your allies!
And final advice... don't trust the undead! In these books evil guys stay evil. There is no redemption for the servants of Naar.
THE STORY:
You start at:
--- HOLMGARD QUAY ---
(1) As starting gear choose the Shield (+2CS)!
You can also take the Chainmail Waistcoat (+4END) for your next fight, but you will lose it soon anyway (not a big problem anyway).
(160) no matter what, you will be forced to fight the Harbour Thugs CS=16 END=25, courtesy of our arch-enemy Vonotar! If you see an hint of a snake (a tatoo, a flag, a symbol), that's the mark of Vonotar.
You can complete the fight or evade, nothing to gain.
-- GREEN SCEPTRE CARAVEL ---
(300) ROLL OF LUCK!
Depending on roll, you can fight some giaks and a drakkar warrior, or get a new sword, or simply nothing.
(243) However you will soon recover all your END with healing.
There will be a sabotage on the ship. You may just shout Fire!
(222) Don't try to open Captain Kelman's lock or you will die.
(53) If you have dinner with the captain, you have 50% chance to get 10 Gold Crown with Sixth Sense.
(197) ROLL OF DEATH!!
No matter what, if you roll 0 it's game over. There is nothing to prevent this scenario: 10% chance to lose and restart.
If you pass this gate, you will lose the Chainmail Waistcoat and you will be shipwrecked.
Don't ask help to the fishing boat! They are robbers and they will steal you everything, included the Seal of Hammerdal!
--- WILD-LANDS ---
(194) If you really asked for help to the fishing boat and you just lost everything (!), you have only 1 chance to recover the Seal of Hammerdal. I marked the route with a blue line. However you will be able to explore Ragadorn, there are many sections that players like me probably missed since we always played safe-game!
(337) Anyway, let's go down the "easy" road! We arrived at the Wild Lands and we just lose all weapons and backpack, but still we have the money and the Shield!
(228) Take the Larnuma, 2x meals for free. Believe me you will need them.
(27) Go EAST!!! Read the map! There is nothing to gain going west, just a deadly Viper!
(312) Get down from the tree and flag it down, no need to risk two Rolls of Death!
--- RAGADORN ---
(148) You need weapons! So go Axe Lane (hint with the name...)
(257) Go for Sage Street
(181) Buy a Sword or other weapon if you have different Weaponskill.
That's it! Now you are fine!
(186) If you miss 20GC and you can't buy the Ticket To Port-Bax you are one foot away from Doom.
(238) Your only chance is to win at Cartwheel Game! The win ratio is 1.8 Gold Crown win on average for each 1GC you bet, so the odds are in your favore. Beware that you could have just bad luck and lose all your crowns!! Then you are doomed and you should restart.
You need at least 22 GC.
(10) Let's assume that you bought the Ticket to Port Bax for 20 GC. You will need it very soon.
Roll of luck. Best case is 0-3, so that you can gather one Meal of Laumspur (+3 END)
(249) Meet your travel companions. One of them is an assassin! Guess who?
--- INN ON THE COAST ROAD TO PORT BAX ---
(39) If you miss the Ticket to Port Bax, now you are dead.
(346) You need to pay 1GC for the inn, or you are dead.
(314) The innkeeper will bring you food for free. Never accept food for free!!
We miss the option to eat the food in the backpack, so accept the loss of -3END.
You can still save yourself with healing or Laumspur (were you lucky enough to get it?) but you will face a 50% roll of death!!
(200) If you survive it's the moment of the Tavern Shodown! Pick your opponent!
(158) The assassin is Parsion, he is an agent of Vonotar. Fighting Viveka (24CS) or Ganon and Dorier (28CS) can be quite problematic for you now! Also Parsion will drop 23GC for you (you don't need them now, but there are still more books to play later).
(33) Escape, no need to fight so many guards for nothing.
(88) With Camouflage you can buy a Broadsword for 12GC (no need). Just skip.
--- DURENOR FOREST ---
(150) This is the crucial point.
Do you have Animal Kinship? No? Then you must go LEFT and kill the Helghast!! --> Good luck! Do you have Mindshield and Weaponskill with Spear? Are you full health?
The Helghast is hard: CS=22/END=30 (immune to Mindblast and -2END each turn without Mindshield)
If you survive, you need to keep the Magic Spear (don't give it to Rhygar later) or you will die at Tarnalin!
(334) With Animal Kinship you can go RIGHT at the fork and investigate the Watchtower.
(115) Be honest with the Knight of the White Mountain and show him the Seal of Hammerdal.
(15) Rewards are: Mace, Broadsword, Quarterstaff, Healing Potion (restores 3 ENDURANCE points), Enough Food for 3 Meals, Backpack, 12 Gold Crowns and the PASSWORD: “SUNSET”.
(244) Cross the bridge, you know the password (sunset).
--- PORT BAX ---
(265) Now we are at Port Bax. This is the unique case where, if you miss the Seal of Hammerdal, you can loop forever, thus never ending to go back at the City Hall and failing the quest. If you buy false documents, you are dead.
Go to the Harbour.
(191) Enter the port Watchtower, choose the door "Red passes" and show the Seal of Hammedal.
(263) You will get the Red Pass (special item) so that you can pass and reach the Sommerlund Consulate.
(31) We meet Lord-Lieutenant Rhygar, who will help you recover (+6 END).
--- HIGHWAY NEAR RIVER DURENON ---
(176) Depending on roll, you will follow sligthly different scenario. You should try to avoid the fight with the Helghast anyway. Nothing to gain and possible death.
--- TARNALIN TUNNEL ---
(299) The moment of truth. Do you have Animal Kinship? Then it's auto-win, but you MUST follow the Noodnic at (118) and (144).
Otherwise you have to face the Helghast.
(102) Do you miss Animal Kinship? But do you have the Magic Spear? Still doable then, just follow the path. Sixth Sense will warn you of Danger, but the results are the same.
If you miss the Magic Spear you are dead!
(349) At the exit of Tarnalin, do not attack the Durenor Knights!
(284) Lord Axim of Ryme will escort you to the king.
--- HAMMERDAL ---
(9) Time to complete the quest and to rise to your new position of most badass in the house!
(79) THE SOMMERSWERD (+8CS)!! The golden sword made by the gods is the best item in-game. The only problem is that it is too good! It will help you in many books and also in other games beside the books!
Now you have also a solid defence against hostile magic, your undead enemies have the health reduced to half and you can also restore some END in special occasions later. Also it looks badass... I just love it. So epic!
(152) Time to go back to save Sommerlund.
--- SEA NEAR KIRLUNDIN ISLES ---
(100) Vonotar will try to stop you with a fleet of undead zombie crew.
You can skip the first Helghast if you want, or just take revenge (with the SS they are not so challenging anymore).
(276) From lore perspective, you can try to attack Vonotar (however he will escape, but we will see him soon in book LW03), or you can meet Captain Kelman again. Too bad he is an undead now. And you should never trust undeads! Don't lay down the Sommerswerd and kill all the zombies you can find!
You can evade jumping into water.
(120) In any case you will arrive aboard another Durenese ship. You won the book!
--- HOLMGULF AND HOLMGARD HARBOUR ---
(350) VICTORY !!!
One of the most epic moments of the saga.
The Sommerswerd will channel the Sun light power to the tent of Darklord Zagarna, killing him with a blast of golden energy! This will be the first step of revenge after the death of the first order of the Kai and the destruction of the Kai Monastery.
The armies of Durenor will help Sommerlund to repel the invaders from your homeland and this war will stop. The Darklords will have a power struggle to find a new Archlord and you will have time to hunt down Vonotar in Kalte!
--- END ---
I hope you enjoyed this work.
I believe that this is one of the most legendary book in the saga. LW02 FIRE ON THE WATER, LW03 THE CAVERNS OF KALTE, LW05 SHADOW ON THE SAND and LW07 CASTLE DEATH are the most fascinating books from my point of view.
If the feedback is positive, I will work on more visual Walkthroughs.
